He completed more passes than the whole Chelsea team in the first half lol...

He wasn't very incisive but thats not really his first priority or job...

A better question is "why can't Messi even finish his burger?".

controlling the play and the tempo is far from a useless skill...

it just wasn't really needed today because Chelsea had no plans of challenging Barca anyway

Aside from the Chelsea matches, Xavi is still half injured and he is getting older too. Good as he still is, he was bound to decline eventually

Whoscored.com gave Xavi the man of the match.

He did fine, infact the whole team did ok, they just didn't finish their chances + Messiah really should've scored that penalty.

He's overplayed and on decline. He must rest now, I don't think he will shine at Euros, but maybe he will play better. From next season Xavi will play less games IMO. He has chronic problem with injuries. I won't be surprised if Xavi will start only big LL and UCL games next season with Cex and Thiago playing more together.

Pep's fault.

He played Iniesta deeper and pushed Xavi a bit forward, just like in the first leg, so Xavi occupied the space directly in front of Chelseas defence, where he was expected to play a couple nice through balls, which is a nice idea, but through balls through what gaps? Chelsea played a 6-3 formation after Terry was off, there was no space to be had.

Xavi couldn't control the pace or direction of the game because he didn't play deep enough for that, which was Peps fault, and he didn't have space further up to create anything, because Chelsea parked their team bus in front of the teams airplane, both behind the team's moat filled with alligators.

what happened to xavi was the phenomenon called "absolutely nothing"

his job is to control the flow and pace of the game, which is obviously useless against a team that has zero intention to leave their own penalty box

seriously... did, like, a witch or something turn everyone on this forum into goldfish? 1 or 2 bad games = crap, 1 or 2 good games = world class?

I meant that in a good way. As in he has more than just sideways passes to offer.

Anyway if Xavi is not good against teams the bunker down then maybe he shouldn't play in these games.

Xavi has lost a bit of desire for the killer pass.

Anyone who watched Spain at the WC knows this , because there, it was his job to make it and he chose to consolidate midfield instead. He is the best in the game at that. That's the only change I see to be honest.
