Marchisio stands by Buffon
Claudio Marchisio has backed teammate Gigi Buffon to bounce back after his error cost Juventus victory against Lecce.
The goalkeeper’s late mistake gifted the relegation threatened side a goal which netted them a 1-1 draw in Turin.
“Gigi was obviously upset because he absolutely wants to clinch the title,” stated Marchisio who had given his side the lead.
“However, he’s a strong character and against Cagliari he will immediately be our certainty again.
“In Trieste we’ll give our all in order to win. And if good news come from Milan, it will be better, however we just have to think about ourselves.”
Juventus are now just a point ahead of Milan following the Old Lady’s failure to see off a Lecce side who had gone down to 10 men.
“We should have sealed the victory against Lecce, also considering that they were one man down,” continued the midfielder.
“We tried to manage the ball possession, because perhaps we were a bit tired having played three days ago.
“Moreover, there was that mistake. Unfortunately, these circumstances can happen, but we can set it right.”
Juve will face Cagliari on Sunday, while the Rossoneri will play their city rivals in the San Siro derby.
“We’re still at the top of the table,” added Marchisio, the scorer of nine League goals during this campaign.
“Now, we must play and show our strength and calmness, especially because we must remember that at the beginning of the season, we didn’t expect to be one point in front of the second side in the table with two games to go.”
