What a random question, I would say Ronaldinho due to him having more experience in penalties then Messi..

R10 by far. Messi is poor penalty taker and should stop taking them in next season. Enough of stat padding, time to do sth for the good of the team, not for adding goals in the race vs CR.

Mm yeah, figured Dinho had more penalties. But Messi isn't a terrible penalty taker in my opinion, he missed two important ones but made them against Milan x2 and other important matches, can't score them all.

Eto'o penalty stats are veryyyyyyyyyy poor.

At Barca he took 12 penalties, scored just 5!!

Khaled what are Villa's penalty stats? Also, do those stats differentiate between a penalty shootout and an in game awarded penalty?

I think Ronnie, but Messi is a good penalty taker as well. I think Villa is just as good though, maybe better... but I have no problem with Messi taking them. When you have a player like Messi, if he wants to take them, you let him.

D105 30/38 79%
R10 37/48 77%

And Messi never missed for Argentina (men,U20), 6/6 + atleast 1 SO.

Why is Eto mentioned in this thread if his stats are so poor... Why not Villa

Eto's stats are very surprising

Dont know about past but messi at the moment is very good penalty taker he is improved and scored some un-savable penalties this season

I dont understand how people can say easily to either player - in this case its mostly the dinho fans who are saying it - because they have very similiar stats.

I think it's very even, to be honest but I always viewed the penalty taker to be an experienced older player which in this case is Ronaldinho, but that's just my opinion.

They're really not. Eto'o gets nervous easily when he's on the spot. Remember he lost the pichichi in the last games of the season twice, not for lack of chances but for lack of finishing. The pressure of the award always got to this head.

yeah i remember those days when eto was missing easy chances at his last season. but missing 7 out of 12 penalties is very strange

its mixed between dinho fans+messi haters+nostalgia...i'm sure if some people didnt see eto's stats they would say "Clearly Eto for me"

Correction: Eto'o scored 7 penalties out of 14 attempts, during his time at Barcelona.

2006/07: 0/0

Ronaldinho was the best penalty taker, but it's no way as clear as matpol says, neither is Messi a "terrible penalty taker".
Everyone misses sometimes, and the truth is that Messi is good at taking penalties but unfortunately he has missed two very important penalties this seasons and hence this matpol's kneejerk reaction.
But the best penalty taker nowadays also has missed a very important penalty and couldn't even shoot another very important one.
Ronaldinho also missed a penalty vs. Sevilla that made us lose a league for instances.
No one scores 100% of all penalties or all important penalties.

By the way, whoever voted Eto'o is on crack.
