I'm seeing that Giroud has 5 assists from other sources Jay. Wikipedia, transfermarkt.co.uk, a picture comparing him Rooney and Torres.

He has 2 assists in the CL, 2 in the PL and 1 in the League Cup according to transfermarkt.co.uk

Stats are deceiving. Gibb's absence coincided with the international break, which is when the entire team turned crap for some reason. Had Gibbs been fit during that time, chances are he'd have suffered the same drop of form as everyone else did; I doubt form dropped because Gibbs was injured.

Having said that, having a proper back four with a left back that's a competent defender would have been a big help.

Our front three is pretty much decided imho.

It shows how far, some much needed experience (Podolski,Cazorla) can get you to.
Never expected the new signings to fit so seamlessly, but hey, they had no other option. Laughing

Every one of them brings something else to the table which is a nice thing to have.

Just realised:
Walcott-Giroud-Podolski
WA-GI-PO

The three of them to deceive all of us? hmm (and lead us to glory?)

With Giroud, his success would always depend a lot on how well Arsenal utilised his strengths. He may have missed a couple of good chances in his first few games, but Arsenal seldom played to his strengths in those games.

Now, though, we're beginning to get the best out of him. If you breakdown the goals he's scored, you can see there's been a change of approach:

vs Coventry - left footed finish, through pass by Coquelin
vs West Ham - left footed tap in, cross from Podolski
vs Reading - header, corner from Walcott
vs Schalke - header, cross from Podolski
vs Fulham - header, corner from Walcott AND header, cross from Walcott
vs Tottenham - left footed finish, pass by Cazorla

It's no coincidence that Walcott's name appears the most here, because he's been the one player who's willingly crossed the ball into the box. Ideally, we want Podolski to do the same more often on the other side or, if not him, than Gibbs (when he returns) or Cazorla, he tends to drift to that side.

I think Podolski could contribute more in terms of general build up play, but he's scoring and providing.

Walcott's improvement has really helped this front-line. Before, we weren't sure if we should use Gervinho, Chamberlain or Walcott on the right because they each had their faults. Since that Reading game, though, Walcott has made that spot his own. He offers a directness that neither Podolski or Giroud provide.

Giroud is good when he plays completely on the offside line. Sometimes when he doesn't get the ball enough he wants to come deep. That is not his game. When he is a target man and uses his link-up play, he is fantastic because he can win in the air, he can score with his feet and can be a complete striker. He still has some work to do, but he is getting better.
