I enjoyed reading, good stuff man.

I udnerstand your points there and mostly agree. However the issue is, S.A.F seems to insist on a 4411 type formation and I think Carrick isnt the best fit for this system.

He doesnt like to go out and press the opponant in midfield, its not his game, so in midfield you have to sit off the opponant and let them have it. Against the lesser teams of the league, you wouldnt want that.

Xavi and Alonso rate Carrick and I see why, I dont hate him nearly as much as most. I think he can be useful depending on the situation.

But overall, for Carrick to be important to Utd I believe you have to play with 3 midfielders (allowing him to sit deep both offensively and defensively) and that means no Hernandez/Welbeck and Rooney as a lone striker.

I think getting the best out of Carrrick would mean taking something else away from the rest of the team.

Post by Abramovich Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:43 pm

I totally forgot about Carrick this season, kinda like a pre Villa Jenas and Piennar now kinda disappeared of the radar for me.

It was a good post and a nice read, he kinda reminds me of Mikel a little tall decent on the ball playing those high percentages passes whilst protecting the back 4.

If you are to win the league this season, I'm sure he will definitely have a role to play in the season bearing in mind Fletcher is pretty screwed.

Like the old saying goes, it's not the best team that wins the league its the best squad or something along those lines scratch

:edit: some tard negged the OP for some reason what a douche.

great article, I agree 100%. He has been converted to a great dmf who ocassionally sprays great balls. He keeps it simple. Phil Jones is benefitting too from playing alongside him.

His current form has been superb too.

not a pure destroyer, but very aware defensively. Definitely look a lot better when being played next to Scholes Sad Carrick-Fletcher would do well though

Carrick tops Tottenham poll

Michael Carrick has pipped Rio Ferdinand to ManUtd.com’s Man of the Match poll vote for his performance against former club Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Carrick has been in fine form this season and Sir Alex Ferguson has said that United’s midfield metronome is enjoying his finest campaign yet for the Reds.

It was another commanding display from the 31-year-old playmaker and the fact that he beat Ferdinand, who was outstanding at the back for United, to the top spot in our poll is a significant show of approval.

The Reds’ no.16 polled 39% of the votes, with Rio taking 33%. Phil Jones, playing in a midfield role on Sunday, impressed with some heroic blocks and tireless running and claimed 17% of the votes, while Danny Welbeck polled 11%.

Carrick was as much seen breaking up Tottenham attacks as he was starting them for United. However, the fact that the Reds couldn’t quite hold out for victory was a source of frustration for Carrick, who felt United had defended valiantly in the face of a late Spurs siege.

"While Tottenham were coming at us, I thought we defended very well as a team," he said. "People were putting their bodies on the line to block shots and we hoped we could see the game out. We set up slightly differently but defended well as a team and looked really strong. We just couldn’t see it out.”

Congrats Carrick for your performance at White Hart Lane cheers !

Even though carrick only scored 2 goals and had 4 assists this season. Its more about how pivotal he was in the heart of midfield he had a 88.3% pass completion which was his role.

Carrick was our best player on Sunday. His distribution is amazing, although his long passes can improve.

Carricks importance is huge to this team, which is why we need another class midfielder because if teams deny him possession and take him out of the game we become predictable as hell and easy to defend because we turn to putting everything out wide and don't play through the middle....which is why Rooney is so important as well and why I hope he doesn't leave, as we have not seen Kagawa play the Rooney role as the #10 and dictate a game yet like he can.

IMO, Carrick is a player who doesn't seem influential on the field; but when he isn't available, the team suffers.

Yea, Carrick should be available for the Swansea game. Proud

I am thinking to buy the away kit of this season with Carrick's name on back.

His contract is ending in July 2015. So should we grant him another 1 or should we let him leave as a free agent in the summer? What you guys think ?
We will be bringing new CM in the summer most probably. So is it worthwhile to keep him as a backup. Gonna be 34 next year.

Too early to say, he played well vs Crystal Palace and did a good job at CB vs Man City. As long as he provides a good depth option, then I hope he stays. Our team is quite young too, so it's good to have him around.

I think it's important to keep such experienced players around the club during periods of rather violent transition as we've seen at United. It's not simply a case of having experience on the pitch but experience within the club and squad, something that can not be replaced by recruiting veterans from other clubs. Having seen the likes of Scholes, Giggs, Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra leave in a short space of time, Carrick seems more important than ever to me as an example and leader in the dressing room to help the youngsters who arrive and who come through the academy to understand what it means to be at the club and demonstrate a professional attitude. I've always admired Carrick as a player and felt he was often under-appreciated by non-United fans, however even setting aside his quality on the pitch, he'd be an asset to the club in his final years. You've lost enough experience as it is, Carrick provides stability and a link to your past strengths.

I think the problem, assuming he doesn't play that well this season, is we'll have two experienced players that don't really offer much on the pitch, but a lot off it in Carrick and Fletcher. There's only room for having one experienced guy in midfield, so it wouldn't be at the cost of quality depth. If Carrick played in another position, like CB, it would be less of a problem. Saying that, I do think Carrick will prove useful this season, so there won't be a straight choice between him and Fletcher for now.
