Arsenal are eyeing a shock move for young Chelsea star Nathaniel Chalobah, as they plan to offer a fast-track route to first-team football.

The 18-year-old is currently enjoying a very successful loan spell with Championship side Watford and the Blues have high hopes for his progress, but Arsenal are plotting a future for Chalobah in north London.

The Gunners are thought to be planning a move for the highly-rated England Under-21 international – who can play across the back four or in midfield – and are believed to be willing to tempt him to the Emirates with an offer of immediate first-team football.

It’s a prospect which could appeal to the youngster, who is unlikely to be a regular member of the Chelsea side when he returns from his loan spell at the end of the season, with a host of star names above him in the Stamford Bridge pecking order.

Chalobah has featured 27 times for Watford this season and scored four goals, helping Gianfranco Zola’s side to third in the Championship.

Arsenal are running the rule over promising young African centre-half Stoppila Sunzu.

Sunderland and Reading have also shown an interest in the 23-year-old Zambia international but are not willing to pay the £4million needed to buy him from his Congo club TP Mazembe.

The Gunners need to strengthen the centre of their defence and Sunzu has a big reputation after helping his country go into this year’s Africa Cup of Nations as reigning champions.

Arsene Wenger is eyeing up a £7.5million summer move for Eintracht Frankfurt star Sebastian Rode.

SunSport can reveal the Gunners have been tracking the Germany Under-21 defensive midfielder.

Rode, 22, is considered one of the Bundesliga’s rising stars and Arsenal face stiff competition from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

It is understood he would jump at the chance to play in the Premier League.
He has just 16 months left on his contract and has so far refused to sign a new deal which means Eintracht will have to cash in at the end of the season or risk losing him for nothing.

Arsenal have opened talks with Barcelona over a double swoop for Spain duo David Villa and Victor Valdes, according to Spanish newspaper El Economista.

The Gunners were heavily linked with striker Villa, 31, back in January, but the La Liga side refused to sanction the forward's departure.

Valdes, who has spent his entire career at the Nou Camp, recently revealed that he would not be extending his contract at the club beyond the summer of 2014.

Arsenal have been put on red alert after Younes Belhanda revealed he is ready to leave Montpellier and challenge for major silverware.

Belhanda, who turned 23 today [Monday], has been strongly linked with a move to the north London club after emerging as one of the best young stars in the French league.

Arsene Wenger is keen to strengthen his squad at the end of the season and is ready to make his move for the Moroccan playmaker.
