windkick wrote:wtf are you taking about? I never said Mexico is fielding a C squad. And Mexico's "lack of depth", beat Brazil in the final of the Olympics recently. They also won the U-17 World Cup and finished 3rd at the U-20 World Cup. I wouldn't blame them on having "lack of depth", as much as I am accusing them of having horrible management. Chepo has to go if this team is to get any better.

Winning a youth tourney doesn't prove you have depth. You think that team does any better against grown men in this tourney? We already know winning youth tournaments don't translate to Senior success if you look at recent history. I mean seriously since when does winning a tournament that only factors a certain age group mean anything at an international senior level? And I said that Mexico's team right now is a C squad in terms of quality.

Martinique 1-0 Canada

Gol de Fabrice Reuperne. Martinique with a huge win over The Canucks. This isn't the first time Canada has fallen to a French Territory in the Gold Cup, previously losing to Guadeloupe 2-1 in 2007.

Oh well, we got a good roster for this at least. LD, Holden and Jack McInerney are the ones to watch for USA.

I don't think Michigan is known for its love for USMNT.. last time they held a Gold Cup match (against Canada) it was emptier than Arsenal's trophycase in the last 6 years.

Meh, Milan-Panathanaikos at the Silverdome got a good crowd. You're right though, Ford Field was empty as shat for that Canada match.

Haiti actually looked fairly decent against against Honduras, but Honduras put away their chances when it mattered. I have a feeling Haiti isn't done yet.

God I wish this game tonight wasn't at 11:00, but I'll just go into work late tomorrow.

No real surprises and, bar one defensive lapse in the first half, a professional display from the US's B-team.

I don't know why Jurgen keeps putting out a "meh" starting XI only to have to sub out the weak players and right the flow and chemistry of our team.

In this tournament these players should be the spine of the team: Donovan, Holden, Mix, Shea, Goodson, and Beasley.

Other than that, experiment at will...

Holden still hasn't returned to full fitness and cannot manage a full 90 minutes without risking a significant drop in performances in the second half and/or injury. Shea was rather mediocre when he came on last night. I don't think Klinsmann did anything wrong with those two.

I think they left Holden off because they didn't want him to attempt 90 for the first time on turf. Plus, I figured if he did start he'd come off around the 70 minute mark.

As for Shea, he really didn't get much service last night because his connection largely depends on linking up between the CM and Beasley. This connection was ridiculously good against Guatemala, but last night Beasley didn't see much of the ball in the second half and failed to create space for Shea to operate within. Despite this, Shea still did pretty good with what chances he did have.

Personally, if he tightened up his passes in the final third there aren't many out there who could stop him with his size, speed, and endless gas tank. Still have no idea why he went to Stoke, such a perfect "hustle" player for Everton. If he was developed properly he could literally be the American equivalent of Gareth Bale, not sure he has the drive though to become elite.
