The role of support striker has diminished Empty The role of support striker has diminished

Eg Alessandro del Piero played often as a superb support striker to out and out strikers such as Inzhaghi

However, the support striker role has diminished. Could it be due to the speed and fitness of modern game, whereby the midfielders usurped the role of support striker?

Or the great pace of current strikers mean that they can push the ball to the front by themselves ?
