One Man Army
How many players today in world football, are talented/good enough to turn around the fate of a single club?
well, i was reading a quote of moggi qualifying aguero and rossi of not being good enough to turn juventus around. so it got me thinking about what kind of players are good enough to turn around such club, unless ofc he meant that their issues are too deep for a single player to help.

None.......
And no one ever has and no one ever will, the people that mention Maradona at Napoli and Dinho at Barca fail to realise the quality those players had alongside them to take those players to glory.
It's impossible for one player to take a team to success.

I think we all realize that a little bit, but there has to be a point at which a player is so influential, that we can call him such, even sometimes, regardless of the quality of talents he has around him.

+1, no prayers can be answered by a single player.
However, i would consider Messi, CR7 and Ibrahimovic "game changers", with a single stroke a brilliance they can turn a game around.

No but Zidane single handedly carried france to the 98 world cup and 06 final. He did it by himself, it was all him. He didn't need help from anyone.

Zidane only played great in the final of the '98 world cup. I think people literally have made up memories of how good he was in the '98 world cup.

zidane didnt carry france alone in 98. do you remember the team they had? in between thuram , desailly, blanc, deschamps, viera etc... all those amazing leaders that all decided to show up at the same time.
He did much more in 2006 imo. that team without him was a wreckage.

Except for one man........
Alan Shearer we averaged 5th with him in the side in the 10 years he played for us.

Towards the end of the season Van Persie for Arsenal. Gerrard for Liverpool but they aren't as dependent on him anymore.

Re: One Man Army
I agree with Mole here, and lol at Zidane carrying france in 98 and 2006; you seem to forget Thuram (who was a rock at both tournaments), Vieri, Barthez (who is a great goal keeper for the NT), and the rest were not mediocre at all.

Re: One Man Army
Robben for Bayern in the cl last year.
A lot of Ronaldo's season in 2007 08.
Ronaldinho in his first couple of seasons of Barca.
Kaka for milan in the cl in 2006 07.
Of course you need quality around you. It's not like shevchenko could win the world cup for ukraine. There's never been anything like that, even Maradona in 86 wasn't all him. But there's a point where you can give most of the credit to one player and call it a one man show.

Yeah I know I was kidding. But go on youtube to any Zidane video, you'll always find dumbasses who say exactly that. They have no idea who Deschamps, Dessaily, Blanc, Djorkaeff, Thuram etc are.

Re: One Man Army
Ben Arfa was on his way before someone tore him apart.
i guess a lot of those players are pretty old now, a new generation will take over.

Re: One Man Army
Luis Saurez - I think he is already more of a one-man-army than Messi and CR, although he might not have reached there level yet (I think he will in the future).
He can win a game on his own.
