Since it's a year old

Barca would have 84
Madrid would have 80
Bayern 59
Juve 54
Arsenal 40

what trophies, only league, cup, CL, UEFA cup, cupwinners, or also European Supercup and FIFA club WC.
Because then we won 4 since last year.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/diego-simeone-unknowingly-informs-woman-about-the-death-of-her-husband-at-world-cup-with-twitter-post-9597913.html

Diego Simeone, the manager of football team Atlético Madrid, accidentally informed a woman about the death of her husband after he tagged her into a tribute tweet posted at the World Cup yesterday.

In his post, the former Argentina international expressed his “pain” after learning that his friend, revered sports journalist Jorge ‘El Topo’ López, had been killed in a car crash in Sao Paulo before the semi-final between Holland and his native country.

He also paid his respects López’s family, tagging in his wife Verónica Brunati, who was yet to have told the news herself.

Distressed, Brunati directly replied to Simeone, posting a single “No” before following up with: “Diego, don’t tell me that. Someone, please call me.”

The 38-year-old writer was killed in the early hours of Wednesday morning after a taxi he was travelling back to his hotel in was hit by a stolen vehicle that was reportedly involved in a police chase.

He was thrown from the taxi during the collision. The driver of the taxi escaped with an injured shoulder, while three young people in the stolen car were unscathed and later arrested.

López, who is also a father, was in Brazil to support his home country in their progression at the World Cup. His family, as well as his wife (also a journalist) had accompanied him to the tournament.

He worked for Diario Olé, La Red and Sport, an organisation Lopez became part of in 2000, which called his loss “one of the saddest days in our 35-year history”.

He was writing on behalf of Spanish sports newspaper AS at the time of his death.

Not Worthy of a Thread Mk. II - Page 17 Empty Re: Not Worthy of a Thread Mk. II

Post by Onyx Sat Jul 12, 2014 5:27 am

The agent of Yaya Toure has claimed the reason the Manchester City midfielder has failed to win any of football's top individual awards is because he is black.

Dmitri Seluk said the Ivory Coast international would have finished higher than third place in the PFA and FWA Footballer of the Year awards, and higher than 12th in the Ballon d'Or voting, if he was white.

Toure was beaten to both English awards by Luis Suarez, while Eden Hazard and Steven Gerrard came second in the PFA and FWA voting respectively.

Seluk told The Times: "If he was white, 100 percent he would have won one of those top awards.

"I don't want to talk too much about racism or the politics of football, but he does not get the praise he should get. Yaya has three times in a row won the African Player of the Year, but it is different with the other awards.

"I agree with Jose Mourinho when he said that the Player of the Year should come from the team that wins the title. I have very much respect for Suarez and Gerrard, but what Yaya did from midfield, not often a player can do this.

"Who was the best team this year? Manchester City? Who was their best player? Toure. Gerrard is really good but Liverpool finished second in the league and Yaya is third (in the FWA vote)."

Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon d'Or ahead of Lionel Messi and Franck Ribery.

Seluk added: "He is a bit upset about the situation. Messi is the top player in the history of football and I respect Ronaldo and Ribery a lot. Yaya respects all these players. But for an African in these awards it is hard. FIFA needs to change something."

Seluk also refused to guarantee his client would remain at City this summer, saying: "If an important club like PSG (Paris St Germain) or Real Madrid made a big offer it would be for Manchester City to decide what happens."

Is the NBA about to go the FA Cup route? Commissioner says it’s an option
Richard Farley Jul 17, 2014, 7:44 PM EDT

Kurt Helin has more on this at ProBasketballTalk, but there’s an obvious soccer angle to this one, particularly with NBA commissioner Adam Silver evoking “European soccer” as a source of inspiration. Amid the discussions of lottery tweaks and other considerations that are preoccupying the league’s competition committee comes an idea that could turn the heads of a few soccer fans, especially among the league’s huge overseas audience.

Speaking to the media yesterday in Las Vegas, Silver said the committee was “excited” about the league of implementing in midseason tournament – a neutral site event that would draw some inspiration from the cup competitions we see throughout world soccer.

From NBA boss, while attending the Vegas summer league:
“One of the things … that the competition committee talked about and seemed excited about is potentially some sort of mid-season tournament.

[It's] very early days in the discussion of that, but we’re looking at other opportunities in the league to create excitement.

As one of our general managers said at the meeting, there’s very few things you can win in the NBA. When you think about European soccer, for example, they have the FA Cup, and they have other tournaments throughout the season.”

Though he uses the FA Cup as an example, it doesn’t appear as if the commissioner is imagining a long competition that would run in parallel to the NBA season. Instead, the committee seems to be considering breaking in the middle of the campaign to hold a neutral site competition, something that could add another marquee event to the league’s calendar.

Of course, assuming it would be a marquee event might be a mistake, but given the popularity of other knockout competitions (both in the soccer and basketball realms), a second, smaller tournament could add the excitement Silver seeks. While in terms of identifying the best team, cup competitions may not be the ideal solution, having an FA or League Cup-type tournament could give struggling teams a reason to stay competitive. The first time a Sacramento-type team goes on a Wigan-esque run, the NBA will have given fans often left outside the playoffs reason for midseason hope.

And where would such an event be held? Speaking from Vegas, where summer league has experienced a 25 percent increase in attendance, Silver suggested the obvious:
If we were to look at some sort of mid-season tournament, I could imagine doing something in Vegas. This would be a terrific neutral site location.

As Helin mentions, the idea of the NBA shortening its schedule, thereby costing franchises significant revenue, is difficult to imagine, but for NBA diehards who have trouble waiting through the long offseason (one that can last five months, if you don’t make the playoffs), another month of basketball would be welcome. To reinforce the soccer parallel, nobody seems to mind that major leagues occupy nine or 10 months of the calendar. By the time teams embark on their summer tours, fans are itching to get back to the stadium.

Longer schedule or not, the NBA looks intent on considering the option, though if I could make one suggestion: Spread the initial knockout round matches through late fall; allow the isolated “Jordan Cup” games to build excitement for a final eight; then get those fans to Vegas sometime after the All-Star break.

After all, that drawn out hope is part of the agony and ecstasy soccer fans have gotten used to. If you’re part of the goal here is to generate excitement, let that buzz simmer. Pants the seeds in November. Enjoy the harvest in March.
