Very true, but Pique is 27 now, he isnt some kid who needs guidance. Should be long past that stage.

He is an experienced, CL and WC winning defender. He should be leading people and tell them what to do..instead, he is a bumbling fool who I dont even believe competition for a position will save him. More likely, he will complain about being on the bench and want to leave.

Zapata seems to regress every season. Other an odd month last season.

I dislike superlatives, but I have to say that I was calling Pique a bad defender before it was cool, for those with long memories, I started doing it on the old forums in 2010.

He's not that horrid, though, I think some of you guys might be overdoing it.

Of course he's getting pity points, he's played pitifully for years, and now he's even being treated exactly the way he's treated the concept of defending in football.

has there even been a lanky world class defender in the modern game ?

seems like   stocky guys  do inherently better at center back than skinny guys like pique , ranochia etc.....

his form this entire year has been more than amazing.
he is one of the biggest reasons we don't concede that much from set pieces

his 1v1 duels are goat
his passes are improving.

Tbf most big games he's looked okay last few years, its just those games come around so little and he's shite against everyone else.

Fantastic tonight though, was like Puyol was next to him again.

Lord Awesome wrote:Meh, he's just not WC. Simply put.

Pique has good Tech for a tall Defender but that's about it it. Defensively OK, in my book, but has been defo overrated. It just shows how big a hole Puyol left at Barca.

Stepped it up this year and I gladly take him not being WC back. :coffee:
