Did I get here before the "best Madrid ever" brigade?

Unsurprising result.

No it isn't. Especially the way you're talking about it.

Ancelotti has not brought a philosophy to Madrid, he's brought a style of play and tactical ajustments to the FIRST TEAM.
If it was a philosophy he brought to Madrid, the younger teams would be developing a similar style of play as the first team and more youngsters would be getting oppurtunities.

Are you going to sit there and tell me Ancelotti has brought a specific brand of football to Madrid as a whole?

Philosophy doesn't need to mean 'whole' though. As I said, the meaning is subjective. Ancelotti's 'philosophy' is how he would make the team play.

In fact he's clearly said it in interviews in the past that it's 'the team's philosophy'.

The team's philosophy is to play attractive attacking football. It's been like that since it's inception.

I'm asking you, what is Ancelotti's supposed philosophy that he has brought into the club?

The possession oriented football he's been trying to incorporate ever since he joined?

Very few of his tactical choices, digressions and variables indicate that he is attempting to implement a pure possession based philosophy. His words before the season are irrelevant as he's obviously learned that Real Madrid are not a possession team. Rodger's of Liverpool brought the same philosophy yet adapted slower than Carlo in understand that LFC can't play possession.

Carlo's tactical philosophy in Madrid is more about proactive attack and forming a very cohesive unit to which is versatile to adapt in any situation.

His words weren't only at the start of the season though, they have been throughout.

To me it seems as if he's being outplayed at times instead him intending to be versatile, or maybe a combination of both.

I have yet to see his team being outplayed by anyone in the Champions League bar Juventus in the Bernebeu, Atheltic in San Mames and Barcelona in Camp Nou; 2 of 3 of those results being when he hadn't even formulated his plan. Versatility is the brimstone of acquiring results as all costs given the constraints and dire situation he faces in which points cannot be sacrificed for superior aesthetic football.

Yeh but the versatility doesn't work. Whenever we sit back against decent attacks, we concede chances and look like we're about to concede a penalty. It's only against poor La Liga sides we look good defensively.

Individually our defenders aren't the best, so we might as well press high and stop sitting back. For every clean tackle Pepe and Ramos make, they commit an error.

He conceded after the Barca match they had more of the ball because of the 'characteristics' of their players. So basically he intended to try and play our usual game, but he got outplayed. On the other hand with the 'being dynamic' point, it would mean he knew that would happen so he sat back. There's 2 sides to it, however as I said, it's probably a combination of both.

We score one goal and Dortmund will need five. Not even best player in the world Lewandowski could overturn that Proud

And quite frankly if Dortmund over turn this score, Carlo can gtfo with all the ones who underperformed in that game

We will hopefully have DiMaria back, dem counter attacks with Ronaldo, Bale, Benz and DiMaria running at their throat Laughing

Dortmund missing their midfielders and cf was a key factor in this game, Kehl and Sahin are too slow and can't pressure as a unit, Mikhitariyan and Aubemayang are just shit, Reus had to work on his own all game. Poor kid, he is probably going to be very disappointed with himself with that steep pass to Mikhitariyan which gave us enough time to get back when it was a 2v2

Subotic and Schmelzer missing is just picking at straws, they would have made no difference, Subotic probably would have gifted us another two or three goals. The ones they missed were Lewa, Bender and Gundogan, the rest are non factors.

With Kehl out from the second leg, god knows who is going to partner Sahin. Anyways I hope they get their injured guys back and healthy because they are a very likeable team

I wasn't saying it was likely, or realistic Very Happy

Gündogan and Lewandowski are Dortmund's most important players by far.
And I've not seen Reus perform at his best in many big games...

They had chances, with Lewandowski they would have scored at least an away goal.

Still, it would have been an uphill battle even with their all players available, with injuries like that they're not really a match for Real, sadly.

I agree Lewandowski and Gundogan are their most important players, Sahin is just a poor mans version of Gundogan. Bender was also a big loss who was one of the reason we were humiliated at their yard

Lewandowski is their target man and he brings everyone else into play by his hold up play, without him they can't play their game properly, I hope they are actually actively looking for a replacement and not thinking of relying on Aubemayang

Reus I thought had a decent game, he was behind all of the chances Dortmund created, I know they were few and far between but its only so much he could do with so many poor players around him

With all their players available it would have been a close tie, probably a draw. Dortmund is the kind of team we struggle against

Felt bad watching the highlights for Reus, hes class and just missing his teammates good enough to work with him to create and finish the chances. Like others said, if Lewand was playing probably would have scored.

Real through though as expected.

Isco always does so well when given starts.

this was his best match since October man, but still amazing performance by him. there isn't a player out there bar Messi, Iniesta and probably Ozil with his ball control
