Thing is, I would like Vertonghen. However, I have no faith in this board to not get completely raped by the negotiating staff of Tottenham though. I may not be a fan of Levy's when it comes to his decisions over sacking managers constantly and ruining a chance for stability in a squad that desperately needs it, but I can not find a fault in him when it comes to negotiating. I dont understand why we cant take a "risk" (dont think its that at all) and sign a younger guy like BMI and on top of that someone older like Mathieu.

That way all based are covered, if the young guy dont pan out and needs more time then we have an experienced player who can take his place.

If the young guy does pan out, Matheui can also fill in at leftback so he will get good minutes on the pitch and feel part of the squad.

Amazing how we willing to do this with the goalkeeper position (even though we already had a fairly young goalie who will now be 3rd choice) but not CB.

Now, someone will say Bartra...well last time I counted, Bartra, Pique and 2 new guys equals 4 CB's. Mascherano doesnt need to see the light of day in that position ever again.

We keep chasing after Marquinhos who will cost us 35-40M, were just better off paying Laporte release clause 40M. He's the same price, age and is taller. Has experience in La Liga. PSG will just screw us over again.

Difference is Marquinhos has said he would welcome Barcelona, Laporte has time and time again said he doesn't want a move.

They all say that till they actual speak to x club and an actual bid comes in. The amount of time x player says he's happy, or doesn't want to move, but does the second a bid comes in and is agreed by both clubs.

Bayern met the release clause for Martinez and off he went, so as long as we meet the release clause don't see why Bilbao won't sell. If we try to go one million lower then his release clause then yes theres no point, but considering were willing to spend that money on a CB why not.

wasn't that simple, the problem was the extra taxes bilbao sent on the player martinez, if memory serves my right, he had to pay 6-7m out of his own pocket (the player) in taxes so the release clause could go through.

Bilbao makes buying players hell even if they other clubs meet the release clause.
nontheless it's all skeptical If the club and player both say they do not want this to happen then most likely it wont.
whereas if the club doesn't and the player is trying to push for the deal (such as the mathieu transfer) then it becomes slightly more easier and possible.

Oh I know Bilbao make life hell when it comes to selling one of their players, but considering how we are offloading players offering a swap for him or something could've been beneficial for us and if we actually approach the player giving him confidence in joining us it could help us, but it seem we hardly approach defenders just wait for them to speak up and try to push for moves themselves.

I see what your saying, and they are most def building a very attacking powerful team. But at the same time I can't help but feel they will be very unbalanced. Seems like a bunch of Uncle Flo type of moves; the team they had last year didn't need this many changes to compete..

Khedira and Di Maria out. I think both were an essential piece to making there system work. And Di Maria did all the running for Ronaldo. Ronaldo has tendinitis and it would of been smart to get pressure of him. Kroos playing a holding roll? Khedira would of been better there. Xabi is pretty much older and close to being done, similrlaly to the same boat with us and Xavi, they will be hard to replace. that Asier kid never really panned out
