FT 2-1 to Lorient. Poor start by Monaco to the season

that Monaco team looks garbage on paper.

Certainly nothing to be worried about in CL.

Lorient nicked it and rightfully so, Monaco got lucky with that pen decision.Abdennour with two mistakes on his debut   

Monaco needs to spend that James money fast

ofc they are bad, Abdennour and Carvalho are terrible.

Bakayoko and Kondogbia are terrible.

Moutinho still playing like crap.

Carrasco and Ocampos are kids that will be inconsistent, nothing you can do about that.

Falcao deserves to be playing for Liverpool. Staying at MOnaco hoping that madrid will sign him when Carlo is clearly in love with Karim who just got extended will end badly for him.

first game of the season,with a new manager and they sold a key player, why the kneejerk?

they just arent very good, and unless they invest massively, this will be a trend. but they have a guy like falcao that will win them 25 games.

if the club feels they can do something with these players, then give them time

i dont have to give them anything i dont manage them.

just let down by them that's all. going forward they do some interesting stuffs, but that pair of CBs will be the end of them

lol @ at Nick's kneejerk. Monaco actually played very well other than the CBs. Jardim had said that he would reward the players that played the best in preseason with the start in the first home game. Hence the quirky lineup... i don't think Jardim realized how competitive Ligue 1 is and you cannot do stuff like that until in Portugal. Lesson learned.

They play an extremely high line and the 2nd goal happened with Martial, Germain, Berbatov and Falcao on the pitch together WHILE down to 10 men. That's a 4 striker set. As soon as there was a mistake in the middle of the pitch... it was a highway to goal.

I do agree that they need to get a new CB and they are working on it.... hard. They'll get 1 or 2 of them before Aug 31.

Really attractive footy though. They started 6 players who were 22 years old or less in this one (Ocampos, Carrasco, Kondogbia, Kurzawa, Bakayoko, Dirar).

Lorient is a hard team to play too. The assistant coach of Gorucuff for many years is the coach now and they still run this 442 that you don't really see often.

PSG got a full flavor of Lorient 2 years ago on opening night as well as they lost to them at the Parc des Princes.

Kondogbia was fantastic btw.

in short, i think this is going to be a very tough team in about a month... just need a few games of real competition with the new system for it to settle. No problems offensively at all. Issue is that high line defense and you need all 4 defenders to be in perfect sync with each other and the midfield. Doesn't happen overnight.

So much overreaction in this thread. Monaco were decent and looked better for large periods in the game. They're still only in the first official game under new management so they will need time to find themselves. I don't think the problem was lack of chance creation though, they had 12 shots, it was that the finishing was so poor and defending so amateurish. The finishing at least gets fixed by playing Falcao from the start rather than Berbatov. Prime Falcao would've scored 3 today with the chances Berbatov got.

This has to be the most overrated team in Europe. Only Falcao and possibly Moutinho would get into our team. I'm not even sure about Moutinho, he can't do what Gerrard and Hendo are doing and Coutinho >>> at AM.

dirar is 28 sports , not 22 . and he's not even a natural right back .
i don't like that monaco defense one bit .

Thought Fabinho would be starting this season. He is surely better than Dirar. I like Kurzawa and him as fullbacks. Not sure about the CB partnership

10 chances created, 1 goal for Monaco. 2 chances created and 2 goals for Lorient. You're really not going to see that almost ever.

I like Abdennour, Kurzawa and Fabinho on defense. I hate Dirar and Carvalho. They really need a CB or two. That's the only area of weakness i see for Monaco: one CB.

But again, Jardim plays an extremely high line. If your defenders aren't perfectly in sync, they will look silly... and that kind of sync takes time. We'll know a lot more about how the defense truly is in a month's time.

Do you think they need another good striker! They had some good chances (I watched for 65-70 mins) but the finishing wasn't there.

Berbatov is good as super-sub but they need another goal source.

First game...  and again, Ocampos and Carrasco will never both start.  Jardim was just rewarding the guys who played against Arsenal.  Toulalan and Falcao will never start on the bench again.  In the next game, you'll see:

Toulalan-Moutinho-Kondogbia
Berbatov-Falcao-Ocampos/Carrasco

The subs on the attack are Germain and Martial.

That's how they will normally set up.

Jardim has changed tactics to the extreme both in training and on the pitch.  For example, Monaco never do any training exercises without the ball...  everything in training is done with the ball at the players' feet.  Also, his system is extremely tactical and requires a ton of team synergy.  Very similar to what Bielsa does.  It just takes time.

Thiago Silva only has a mild pull of his hamstring... 4 weeks based on the MRI results. The best he could have hoped for tbh. Personally, i think it could last as long as 6-8 weeks given that it's a hamstring... but i tend to be pessimistic about this kind of injury.
