Juve have a poor record at the San Paolo so this is a great chance for us to take that top position and go 2 points clear with a win.

Gotta show balls of steel to get by a Lazio side that is pretty confident. This should be a hotly contested derby.

Slighty disappointed we drew this game, but that fight back was excellent. Couldn't afford to lose and Totti wasn't going to let that happen. He dragged us right back into this game.

Now just need a Napoli win.

I agree. I wish we would have pushed on after the 2-2 goal.

On positive note - THE KING OF ROME IS NOT DEAD!!! CAPTAIN FANTASTIC!

Destro needs to leave. He just wont fit into our game.

MDS redeemed himself later with a great save against Klose, but still a new GK is needed. Rather sooner than later.

I think we're sticking with MDS for the rest of the season honestly.

We'll move for Cech or someone similar in the summer.

Another uninspiring and mistake show for Roma Laughing Garcia tried 4-2-3-1 in first half and it showed why he shouldn't switch formations and stick to what he knows best. Astori proved why he shouldn't be bought and mapou justified pardew decision to use him as fullback. Ljajic had a quiet day mostly duo to Maresca's decent game as in one on him dispatch him rather maicon style about in 3 or 4 different occasion . oh well forza Roma

Well Rudi was being hammered for sticking to the 4-3-3 so it's a bit harsh on him when he actually moved away from it, which is what some fans have called for. He showed his flexibility and while it didn't help us at all, it's a lose-lose situation for him as he's not going to make everyone happy regardless of what formation he sticks with so I agree....he should be sticking to his guns and only moving away from the 4-3-3 out of absolute necessity.

We clearly lack some world-class player who can turn the game around by himself. Ljalic, Pjanic, Itrube - they have the ability to do that, but lack consistency.

Its not too much of formation as for application of it. Every single formation can work but the right demonstration and requires players to be clear about the job they asked to do. If we get problems using 4-3-3 the 4-2-3-1 will give same problems and additional defensive issues because formations change form depending on how players implicate it. I think our offence just doesn't click as in the last season i criticized a player like ljajic to not coordinating with other two. He started to change do it but its still occasional and not consistent. To add to it we got Iturbe who still thinks he is playing for hellas verona and tries to hustle and catch the ball to do counter and play rather re-active football while the rest of the team attempt to play pro-active and keep possession. Its not only bad for the game plan but singles out him as a terrible player which he is not. Add these we get destro with no service, an inconsistent player and a hustler.
By changing formation however we add to the confusion as the player like ljajic loses its efficiency duo to so many different tasks he asked for in different games.

Thoughts on the upcoming Fiorentina match, lads?

Draws are beginning to do some damage so we need a win here.

We can talk about form, formation and such, but I think it's mentality that's going to get us this game. Gotta come out and play with intensity and passion. There must be conviction in every pass, every run and every shot.

More than anything, possession and build-up play can't be the end-all, be all. We have to finish and finish ruthlessly.

We might win, but it will be an open game. Likes of AStori and Yanga will struggle against pace of Viola attack. So it might come down to our ability to control the ball and obviously to score our chances.

We'll have no problem controlling the ball and dominating possession I'd say. Based on the last month or so though....we're probably going to continue having problems creating and converting clear cut chances though. That's the real problem.

Yeah just no intensity. Nothing to do with tactics or even the opponents. These lads just don't have fire in their bellies and I don't think Rudi quite knows how to put it there. The novelty of last season has well and truly worn off.

This campaign is showing me a few things about this current team. One is how dependent we are on Gervinho to open space and create chances. When he is playing well we win and create many chances. Even if he does not score or assist he still opens play up and stretches the opposition with his runs and creates space for everyone else. When he's missing or playing poorly we tend to struggle breaking down teams.

Second, we need a proper goal scorer that will notch 17-25 goals if we want to compete with the best. Someone needs to put the ball in the net. Gervinho, pjanic, Totti and co. Can create. Destro is NOT going to be that guy for us.

Third,  Iturbe was a massive over pay by Roma. He looks like  8-10 mil signing at most. Surely not 30 mil. Really disappointed so far with him. We could have gotten someone much more decisive for that price.

Fourth, as always, fullbacks needed.

I still have high hopes for a castan and manolas partnership

Destro is on his way out and Luiz Adriano will join shortly afterwards. I wish we could take Salah also, but we have reached the max non-EU players limit.

Destro was a wrong purchase to begin with. I mean, I rate him, but when you bought him you already had Osvaldo and Totti and didn't really need another CF with Zeman's 4-3-3.

And I don't agree that Destro's problem is that he's not the striker that will notch 17-25 goals. His problem is that he doesn't offer anything outside goals and therefore he hinders the whole Roma's build-up. He's got like the highest percentage goals/minutes played in Serie A since Garcia took over.

hmm destro was bought because borini wanted the club to buy him outright but Roma wanted to extend the loan deal for another year. Roma ended up not paying and let the co-ownership be decided by blind auction and bought him for 4m if im not mistaking
There was a need to replace him and destro was available and had a decent record so they sold borini for 13.3 and bought destro for total of 16m. It really cost Roma around 8m and that was genius

About his Role, well he is a inside the box striker and managed to build a good partnership with gervinho last season. After arrival of iturbe he sat on bench and is out of form now because of that.

Borini was more of a winger/wide forward tho. He's exactly that type of forward that thrives in a Zeman's system, I'm sure he would have exploded had he stayed that season.
