Athletic bilbao players after final...
Markel Susaeta: "He's the most decisive player in football today. What he did tonight was spectacular".
Ibai Gómez: "So long as Messi wants to win trophies, it'll be hard for Barça to ever lose...There will never be another player like him".
Aymeric Laporte: "Messi ran amok".
Iago Herrerín: "He scores against the best goalies in the world, so how could he not score against me? His first goal was crazy; we can't do anything to stop players like that".

Re: The Lionel Messi Appreciation Thread & Fan Club II
Chiellini said Messi couldn't score those goals against Italian defences.... Well, Giorgio, I'd pick my words wiser if I was in your place.
It didnt turn out well for Neuer after saying he will show Messi who's the boss.

Re: The Lionel Messi Appreciation Thread & Fan Club II
Paolo Maldini - "Messi makes the difference. I think he reached and surpassed the level of Maradona. He does incredible things, at a speed that is insane."
Stoichkov - "Messi is one rung higher on the ladder than Maradona, Cruyff and Pele"
Alfio Basile - "I'm the only one who's coached both Messi and Maradona. No one has ever coached both of them. I've got the world record there. Two world-wide stars. But I always say Messi is a real extraterrestrial, cause at the speed he goes with the ball glued to his feet I haven't seen nor will ever see someone like that. He does every play as if he was watching it from the stands. As soon I saw him with the young team, I thought 'this is a serious thing, this guy will be the best player in the world'. Because it's incredible. If you watch him in a practice, by your side, he does things wich are incredible to be done for a human being!"
Xavi - "Messi is the best player in the world, and for me the best ever. Just 27, still getting better. He's only competing against himself. He's the smallest, but he's the best at everything, even in the air. Messi is a phenomenon. I'm not about to say anything new. What Leo has been doing is amazing. He's even the best at defending. When he puts pressure on the full-backs, he wins the ball back. He's the best at everything, no matter what he does."

Re: The Lionel Messi Appreciation Thread & Fan Club II
He was very good in the CL final participating in all three goals, just was a bit unlucky/not sharp enough in several plays so he couldn't round it with a deserved goal. He made a couple of plays that could well have been an homage to Chiellin's words :
Should have shot in that first chance after dribling Pogba and Evra...

Re: The Lionel Messi Appreciation Thread & Fan Club II
Think the defender (Bonnuci?) blocked off the left foot shot, would have simply hit him. He didnt so much close the space of the dribble, but stand directly in the angle Messi wanted for the shot to the second post.
Impossible to be sure without being exactly where Messi was, but the body position of the defender looks to me to be what that was.

It was Pirlo but knowing Messi i think he shoots when he is 90% sure it will result with goal. When its 50/50 he doesnt shoot (if he sees a little space to dribble)

No, not Pirlo. That wasnt stopping him shooting..the defender in front of him who follows him when he dribbles right and out of play.

Pirlo is extremely aphatic in that play. If Messi shoots to the far post and scores would have been all hist fault for barely moving.

I agree that his view was well blocked. Buffon's condition when reached near the line though

In terms of decisiveness only Gerd muller can compare tbh. Shame he didn't score in the final though.

Hmm never scored in 6 world cup knockout games, joint most decisive player ever. Let's hope he can have at least one memorable moment in 2018, it would be rather embarrassing if the most decisive player ever played 4 world cups and not one knock out goal.
