Messi: "Moving to wing? I knew the position and it was logic I played there and not Suarez, who's one of the best strikers in the world."
Starting to sound like Harmonica. Messi is actually Harmonica.

I'll tell you one thing Messi is not the best in the world at, tax evasion. His latest appeal has been rejected and is a step closer to trial.

What a strange defensive argument to make.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-33084879
Messi's defence argued that the player had "never devoted a minute of his life to reading, studying or analysing the contracts".
What a strange defensive argument to make.

Yeah. Every super rich person has lawyers and advisers doing the tax work but it doesn't expel you from your responsibilites. I haven't spent too much time reading about his case but it doesn't seem like a minor clause was overlooked or something.
He has to be aware of that.
The footballer and his father are suspected of avoiding paying Spanish tax by using companies in Belize and Uruguay to sell the rights to use Messi's image.
He has to be aware of that.

Re: The Lionel Messi Appreciation Thread & Fan Club II
what's the deal with this tax fraud thing? how serious is this for Messi and what are penalties?
could he seriously be facing jail time or just pay a big fine.

Maybe he was kept in the dark for plausible deniability

The denied penalty was the turning point of the game I think, yet again referee has hand in outcome of a game.

Refdrid everywhere. No hesitation when Di Maria dived but Messi gets taken down and the ref is impassive.

It was penalty but referee will not give 2 penalties so i think di maria penalty was enough. Argentina lost because they didnt expect Paraguay to make come back they wanted to score third fourth goal instead paying attention to defense

Re: The Lionel Messi Appreciation Thread & Fan Club II
EXCLUSIVE: The Barcelona forward was chosen as the standout player in Argentina's 2-2 draw against Paraguay on Saturday, but was not in the mood to accept the prize
Argentina captain Lionel Messi refused the man of the match award for his side’s 2-2 draw against Paraguay because he was furious with how his team threw away a two-goal lead in their Copa America opener.
Messi was key in the build-up to Sergio Aguero’s strike and scored Argentina’s second from the penalty spot, but missed chances in the second half to put the game out of Paraguay’s reach and was in no mood for a photo call following the final whistle on Saturday.
A representative from MasterCard, who hand out the awards in every match in the continental competition, went to the Argentina dressing room to inform the 27-year-old he had been chosen to receive the prize but was told Messi would not accept the award.
Following the Barcelona forward’s refusal, MasterCard were keen to pick another Argentine player after the fantastic first half performance from Gerardo Martino’s men, but the mood in the dressing room was sombre and the representative was told that none of the players were willing to accept the accolade.
It was then decided to give the prize to one of Paraguay’s two goalscorers and Nelson Valdez - who netted the first for the Albirroja before Lucas Barrios’ late leveller - was on hand to pick up the unwanted man of the match award.
Argentina face Uruguay in their second Group B game on Tuesday
I wondered why the Paraguayn won the MoM award although they showed Messi winning it during the match.
What a fking boss.

Can Argentina get a better coach than Tata ?? if not they cant win anything. Messi should be happy with those personal awards or should take charge of the team just like he did for the good of Barcelona

Playing a SA team is not that easy. If Tata being a coach their throughout his life cant recognize the ability of a SA team, he should quit. i wonder how is he so popular in argentina...I din see any great plan from him so far with his spell in Barca and now with NT. Is he doing anything other than playing a bunch of stars. really hope Sabella remained until this tournament.

Agreed. I always thought that S.American teams play dirty football they are A.Madrid of the world. They all are short but muscular they dont let you play football. Only gentle and soft teams are brazil and argentina and this is because all their squads play in europe.no wonder why messi always plays great against brazil

19 years old and almost as good as today... incredible performance.
But didn't score or assist, hence "he flopped".

Re: The Lionel Messi Appreciation Thread & Fan Club II
That is not right. Schillaci played 1990s WC. He never lost a game. Argentina vs Italy (the game that took Italy out of the competition) was a draw.Harmonica wrote:Müller is a great shout, also Rossi for World Cup.jibers wrote:In terms of decisiveness only Gerd muller can compare tbh. Shame he didn't score in the final though.
World Cup Career
Matches (Won - Drawn - Lost)
Pele 14 (12 - 1 - 1) = 86% win
Schillaci 7 (6 - 0 - 1) = 86% win
