Zayn's got no character, needs a gimmick, should come back as a voodoo master, right now just a bland face.

He does need some sort of a personality though imo. Can't just be a generic babyface who's 'good in the ring'.
I mean if the IWC had it their way, we'd have Cesaro, Rollins, Zayn etc all main eventing and it'd turn into some ROH ripoff or an indy show.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 21
Apparently one of the reasons Dean Ambrose was added to the Payback main event to make it a Fatal 4-Way was because of the planned triple threat at SummerSlam and WWE not wanting to do too many triple threat matches in such a short period of time. And, yes, it looks like Ambrose is the fall guy.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 21
Pls go. Shades of WCW's demise ffs.
Former WWE creative writer Kevin Eck revealed in a new blog that Justin Bieber wanted to wrestle at WWE SummerSlam in 2014, teaming with John Cena and Big Show to face The Wyatt Family. Eck’s full blog can be read at this link on his website.
Eck wrote the following about the idea:
The proposed match was discussed among the booking team (which I was on) about five months before SummerSlam, but a deal with Bieber never came to fruition. I’m not sure how close it was to actually happening.
My concern at the time was that Cena teaming up with Bieber — who was making headlines for all the wrong reasons and most definitely would have been booed unmercifully by the WWE audience — would not have done Cena, the face of the company, any favors. To address that concern, the creative suggestion was that Cena would become increasingly annoyed by Bieber in the weeks leading up to the match, but Big Show, who would be portrayed as Bieber’s friend, would repeatedly play peacemaker.
After the babyfaces went over in the match, Bieber would be so obnoxious in trying to take credit for the win that Cena would hit the Attitude Adjustment on him for a big pop. Another point that was raised when discussing the potential match was whether it would have been a bad PR move for WWE to do business with Bieber. The feeling from the powers that be was that if Mayweather liked him, then Bieber must be OK.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 21
There's no need for a new gimmick every week imo. Just stick to one now that he's over. And wtf is he doing on main event ffs. One gimmick and a proper push on RAW is all he needs.
Damien Sandow will debut his latest gimmick on this week’s WWE Main Event in a match against Curtis Axel – “Macho Mandow.” Sandow pays tribute to WWE Hall of Famer “Macho Man” Randy Savage and fans in attendance noted that it was over big time. Below are some photos from Twitter

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 21
It appears WWE adding Dean Ambrose to the Payback main event with Randy Orton, Roman Reigns and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins was a late decision. Cable TV ads that aired after this week’s RAW were still listing a Triple Threat main event without Ambrose.
It’s interesting that WWE is putting all of the former Shield members in a main event already as that was first discussed as a potential WrestleMania 32 idea.
On a related note, Sunday’s Fatal 4 Way match gives WWE the chance to turn Ambrose and Reigns on Orton. The company is lacking in credible heels but they do have new babyfaces that they could be pushing.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 21
Good piece by Russo here. Nowdays the hardcore fans are hellbent in trying to turn the product into some ROH ripoff with 'good wrestlers' main eventing over legit entertainers. The casual fans don't care about 'wrestling', only wrestling fans do. Casual fans want to see entertainment, the skits, promos, characters, storylines, which is what the WWE should primarily be about.
Sami Zayn is a good 'wrestler', but in no way is a main event level entertainer. He's just a 'nice guy', with little to no character. A lot of people seem to be comparing him with Bryan, but Bryan is an anomaly and an exception. He got over in the most unique of ways with a lot of things going his way that shouldn't have done. Heck, the WWE tried to replicate his organic following with Cesaro by handing out signs when he was a heel and it didn't work.
Only thing I disagree with is ratings and who draws. None of that matters in 2015 when there's no competition. If the WWE only cared about draws and ratings, Cena would be champ 24/7 because he's the only fulltime draw. And it would mean none of the younger guys would ever get a chance as main eventers because they weren't proven draws. However if you do want to attract a bigger audience, you need a product that focuses mainly on the entertainment aspect.

Please allow me to introduce myself—I’m Vince Russo.
‘”If the show is good . . . they will watch it.”
– Vince McMahon, sometime during the Attitude Era
Those were Vince McMahon’s exact words to me one day at his dining room table while we were working on the next episode of RAW. The conversation came about when the previous show’s rating came in, and it faired extremely well against tough competition. Vince’s point was that no matter what else is on TV at the time—it doesn’t matter—if your show is good—it will be the one of choice.
Last night RAW experienced its lowest rating of the year, and of course out came the excuses that it was up against the second round of the NBA playoffs. Now, while that is indeed a fact, it had nothing to do with the rating bottoming out. The numbers sunk to new 2015 lows because the casual television fans for that night chose the NBA over RAW because the NBA was indeed the better show of the evening. However, had it been another time, another era, say Austin vs. Rock circa 1997—-it wouldn’t have mattered if LeBron James was matching up with Julius freaking’ Erving—the television viewer was watching wrestling that night.
However, everybody is running to the defense of the WWE, claiming that RAW was a great show on Monday night. WHY was it great in their opinion? Simply because an NXT wrestler that they all mark out for, Sami Zayn, made his surprise appearance on the WWE’s premiere show. I can only imagine when Sami got introduced by Bret Hart and came out as a surprise through the RAW entrance—to the Internet Wrestling Community is was the equivalent of Jesus himself showing up unannounced at the Sea of Galilee. But to the casual wrestling fan—nobody cared—to them this was a jobber and nothing more–so they indeed turned back to hoops.
RAW is a television show and Sami Zayn is NOT a television star—nor—will he be anytime soon. Sami is an exceptional wrestler on a wrestling show, and the only people who care about him are those die hard wrestling fans who are looking for 5-star matches that the massive don’t give a !@#$% about.
That’s why as champion Seth Rollins isn’t drawing no matter how hard they push him. Seth Rollins is a great wrestler, who only appeals to those purists who watch RAW for quality matches. The casual masses don’t care about that. What they care about are characters and storylines that ENTERTAIN them like the other TELEVISION shows they watch.
RAW wasn’t a GREAT show because Sami Zayn was on it—and the numbers clearly back that up. As Vince stated to me—there was better programming on television and that’s what the masses decided to watch. At some point in time, right around the Royal Rumble in Philly, the WWE started listening to their small, niche audience—the ones with the loudest voice—the ones who will watch as long as the word WRESTLING is somewhere in the show’s title.
They have completely made a statement that they no longer care about the masses watching television—the masses that stopped watching their product a very long time ago. I fully understand that Sami Zayn is one of the best wrestlers employed by the WWE, there is ZERO DOUBT that he is a “great worker”, but as my friend the Disco Inferno so eloquently puts it . . . “Wrestling Doesn’t Draw”, and that was once again proven this past Monday night.
Hate mail welcomed and accepted. Nothing personal, I’d just REALLY like the casual television viewers to start watching RAW again. Unfortunately, that will never happen if there is absolutely no reason to.
Always was, is and will be, about ENTERTAINING the MASSSES.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 21
Nah, Russo was just a scapegoat in all of it. WCW was a sinking ship when he joined in 1999. Before he joined the the average rating was a 2.9. In his first 3 months the average rating went up to a 3.2, up until he left temporarily, which is when it dropped down to a 2.7. A multitude of factors led to the decline of WCW. Firstly, a lot of the main guys (Hogan, Nash, Hall etc) had creative control, which obviously impacted the booking. They were also taking up huge wages and they had a lot of other financial problems, were in debt etc. Then there were politics, obviously.
Ultimately though it wasn't really anything to do with the product despite it seeming like it. The executives simply decided they just didn't want wrestling on their network, despite it being their highest rated show.
Vince then purchased WCW and has monopolised the wrestling world since. And with no legit competition for 15 years, the product has crumbled year by year.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 21
Pretty sure what killed WCW was them not giving new talent chances, just look at all the GOATs that left to WWE, because they only wanted to keep nWo as main eventers.
Also the contracts to Hall, Nash and Hogan were ridic.
The rehashing of nWo was awful. Everyone was in it at one point. They lived on habbits for years that the original nWo had created. Russo wasn't at fault, the management was for giving him full control without someone saying no to his shit ideas.

Re: The Official WWE Thread - Part 21
It was Bischoff who wanted NWO at the top. He even fired Austin from WCW.
Russo's plan when he joined was to push the younger talent like Benoit, Eddie, and Booker T and to phase out the old guard. Booker T won his first World title while Russo was head writer.
