Finally seen it, will give in depth thoughts later but for now
- Spoiler:
- Chewy OP
Nailed Kylo so hard that he could barely stand up never mind fight 2 people.
Seriously though, great film. Loved the conflicted Kylo, great send off to Han and the film in general was fantastic. Literally don't want to wait for the next episode. Shoutout to Admiral Ackbar

Re: Star Wars – Official Canon Thread. - RIP Carrie Fisher
Been a huge Star Wars fan since i was a kid, i watched the 3 original movies in the 1990s, and i actually loved the prequels despite obvious flaws. I was counting days and nights to watch the new movie, and i actually bought the tickets more than a month ago, but i've never been so disappointed in a movie before for the reasons below
- Spoiler:
- The movie felt shallow and linear, it lacked depth and crisp, and it really felt like Disney's version of Avatar. Too much humor, too little action, and the big plot moments felt meh to me.
I hated how the introduced the Millennium Falcon, and how they introduced Han Solo, both moments where like yea whatever. The way they relieved that Ben is Solo's son was meh, and hell, the way Ben killed Solo was so predictable and it had zero emotional impact.
What i hated the most though is the weakling Villan. First he idolizes Vader, but Vader himself turned to the light side and killed the Seth Lord. WTF? And why the hell is he this weak? yea they revealed that his training is not complete (after he was defeated mind you) but this bitch was trained by luke *bleep* skywalker, and he was defeated by an untrained girl? Why should i care about this battle anymore? After Rey gets some actual training she will be more powerful than he'll ever be so whatever. Cena 3.0. Luke was trained by Yoda and he Vader toyed with him in episode 5, but when he finally got him in Episode 6 it actually meant something. Now if Rey faces Kylo again it will be business as usual, Rey wins lol.
Yea we dont know much yet but Rey is too OP for the villain to mean anything. The best two villain i can think about are Vader and Joker, and both were powerful enough for us to get behind the hero. Kylo is a weakling who i cant take seriously and that ruined it for me

- Spoiler:
- It's worth remembering that Kylo Ren took a direct hit with the crossbow that they made a point of showing in multiple scenes pretty much 1 hitting groups of armoured storm troopers. And he was clearly an emotional wreck after killing his old man. They made a point of showing that too. He only really fully committed to the dark side 10 minutes before the showdown. So you have a prime Anakin level emotional mess who is bleeding out after taking a hit from a weapon that would kill a normal man easily.
To me, Kylo never really fought with any anger at the end. I'm sure supreme leader sprucenuce will sort him out. If anything i'm glad the main antagonist is shown to be so flawed in the first Movie rather than the usual shenanigans where you start off with an OP Villain dominating the main characters, only to have said characters turn up in the next movies after some good old training and wreck the bad guy.
Kylo himself will be progressing alongside the protagonists. Instead of being some Vadar, Dooku, Emperor type character who's already in their prime and have nowhere left to go in the next 2 movies.

- Spoiler:
- Siths or soon to be siths are notorious for always wanting an apprentice. Kylo at no point tried to kill Rey before she let the force in. The force is also not magic but something that intervenes with Rey once she lets it in, which is why she's able to withstand Kylo, even when he's dying. The same with her using jedi mind trick. She doesn't have to learn to use it, the force can tell her to use it if she needs it to survive.
Also too much humour? The originals were filled with maaaaad humour. Everything R2D2 and C-3PO was comedy golds. Prequels on the other hand had no humour, but not due to a lack of trying. Stepping in poop and making racist stereotypes isn't funny.

- Spoiler:
- You say you're a massive fan and while it's not stated specifically, I assume you loved the original trilogy as much as/more than the prequels, right? How then did you find this movie, which is in most aspects a modernized telling of A New Hope, to be so different? If anything, The Force Awakens provided more depth in its characters and dialogue by not only telling the heroes' story but also showing the villain's final fall to the dark side(which was not a part of the original trilogy). Even more so, this movie brought in previous story lines and even wrapped one up, in a way A New Hope obviously could not (as it lacked previous content to build upon or utilize). The film itself was only as "linear" as its source material and the dialogue and humor interspersed throughout was actually much more reminiscent of the original trilogy than the prequels as well, given the oft-criticized exposition of the prequels.
As I said early on, The Force Awakens was really a modernized telling of A New Hope. Different characters, sure and a less triumphant end (probably only because they already have the two sequels lined up while ANH did not have that promise) but the major themes, plot points, character roles (with a few minor exceptions), and atmosphere all mirrored its predecessor.

Regarding Rey:
- Spoiler:
- As we've discussed a little bit before, and many other sources and conversations are covering, Rey almost certainly wasn't some untrained novice using The Force or a lightsaber for the first time. The flashback scenes when she found the lightsaber suggest that she trained under Luke just like Kylo did. She was left/hidden on Jakku at the same time the Millennium Falcon was left there, and both under the care of the same creature. It seems likely that a mental block was placed on her via Jedi mindtrick in order to help hide her from the Knights of Ren/First Order to ensure she wasn't killed or turned. The lightsaber and then Kylo's mind-probing helped to break bits of this and once she embraced the force during the fight her skills returned.
Finally, Kylo's lightsaber, according to the novel, has a cracked kyber crystal at its core rather than a whole one, which make it more difficult to control due to excess power fluctuations (this is also why it has the hilt bits; they act as overflow valves to bleed excess energy AND why it has the fluctuating blade rather than the standard smooth one). An injured (side boltcaster, shoulder from Finn), partially trained Knight of Ren with a more-difficult-to-control blade against a relatively healthy, semi-trained fellow force user... makes the result a lot more reasonable.

Saw it two nights ago, and managed to avoid spoilers too.
Amazing film. Had a couple problems with it but on the whole I absolutely loved it and will likely go see it again

Got home from my fourth viewing. Holy shit is 3d some piece of shit... No colour in the images. Headaches. Hard to see everything in the frame. Absolutely useless tech.
Still loved it though, but 3d needs to go. It belongs in amusement parks

My only opportunity was to see it in 3D, looking forward to rewatching in 2D.
Never like to watch 3D. Thought that they didn't do as bad of a job with it as I've seen in other movies though. Agreed with it being useless tech

it's 20% more expensive than 2d showins also... Combine that with Disney already overcharging.
James Cameron is to blame imo. He went too far.

The problem is that it's post process 3D. Movies that are shot natively in 3D fare a lot better in that regard.

There's been like 4 movies shot in 3d though.
Also it isn't just having to pay extra for 3D but being forced to watch it in it. In small towns there's only 3D showings...

Just got episode 4-6 steelbook blurays. Gonna watch again. Couldn't really justify buying episode 1-3 because I'd never watch them
Currently reading Lost Stars. It's seems like a very good YA romance novel. It's about two young pilots in the empire's best academy and their relationship. Will update once I'm done, only read the first 1/6th of it so far. Not really a huge book guy tbh, but I'm giving it a shot.
