Did you actually watch the goal? The player who was like 5 cm offside didn't even touch the ball. The situation is clearly not offside.

Although I'm not quite sure about the rebound from the post, in Italy that would have been an offside.

I'd say Uruguay is probably the most despised team in SA. Forgot what happen against Chile, Uruguay does the exact same against other teams but that goes unnoticed Laughing

Probably more to do with the fact most of them have played like 50 games+ and went straight into a tournament lol.

People like to bring up this player and that player and why can't they be like the top performers in past big tournaments. Main reason is because they played like 25 more games minimum and then went into a tournament.

Maradona didn't even play 35 before 86 WC lol, why do you think that at most of these tournaments you see scrubs excel? It's because A. they haven't played nowhere near as much as the best players going in B. It's much easier to perform as a lesser talent when those around you are tired.

How is it an excuse? it's pure fact that the best players play like 25 more games. It's also pure fact that the scrubs look good at these tournaments because they play less and thus the talent gap shrinks.

It's also true that the best players of years gone by played less games than the best players of today so they were fresher for the end of season tournaments.

Ignorance is bliss i suppose.

For example Messi played 58 games this year, Valdivia has played 82 games in 5 years Laughing

If you don't think it's a factor you are utterly delusional and also why Valdivia is playing in Brazil lmao.

In the past they played a lotttt more friendlies because their economies depended on it more, though, so I'm not sure how much less current players are playing. They used to play friendlies in the middle of the league Laughing

Dribbling is the only statistic that doesn't depend on your team mates, or team edge. It's you in control with the ball yourself, trying to advance play against an opponent.

Messi dribbles per game:

For Argentina WC14 6.6, total 46 (Robben 34)
For Argentina CA15 7.5, total 30 (Sanchez 17)
For Barcelona UCL 14-15 7.1, total 92 (Hazard 51)
For Barcelona La Liga 14-15 4.6, total 174 (Neymar 104)

Messi gives more for Argentina than he gives for Barcelona, but because it's dysfunctional team playing even more against parked busses, end product isn't the same.

Messi is playing just fine, I'm just waiting rest of the Argentina to wake up as a team.

Big players playing massive seasons and then having to immediately go to the CA plays a factor, but another large factor is the abysmal refereeing in this tournament. When the referees allow the game to descend into who can kick each other harder, than of course the less talented defenders will find it easier to cope with people like Messi, Neymar, Aguero, et all.

This is why South American football has fallen so far behind European football, and you won't see it change as long as this ridiculous "more contact = better football because we r men" attitude prevails.

Hold up now.

I agree and even posted the same thing about the physicality of South American football and how it's funny people are now just starting to realize this is SA football and always has been.

But SA teams falling way behind Europe, where is that coming from. The top players in almost every top league are South American, a lot of European club teams can't even field teams with there own countries players and depend on South America, Africa etc.

The EPL features a shockingly small amount of English starters.

Argentina was in the finals of the world cup and went to overtime and I believe every SA team got out of the group stage for like 2 world cup cycles running plus 2 of the 4 semi finalists were South American.

4 of the last 8 teams in the 2010 World cup were South American and Uruguay finished 3rd.

I don't really understand where SA teams are falling behind Europe.
