Batistuta was leading Fiorentina to win the Scudetto ( like Higuain now ) but he didn't get because he got injured in March 99 , Cavani never :coffee:

You are rewriting history, it's not clear at all. Higuain has been great this season but Cavani at Napoli was amazing and there's a reason practically everyone wanted him. Laughing

Because he's been shit at PSG by comparison doesn't change that fact, he looked like this decades Batistuta ffs.

don't pretend as if you actually watched a minute of Napoli back then lmao.

I too heard about this fantastic Napoli with their super striker back then, when we faced them in CL they were pussycat pushovers with a donkey up front.

Cavani is truly a fraud. If the word has any meaning and should be used, then for a player like him.

Actually i did, i watched Serie A more than any other league back then. Can ask anyone here who was there. He was a beast back then and did some unplayable things.

Anyone who calls him a fraud just didn't watch him back then and not worth conversing with imo. hmm

Cavani was a force of nature on those Napoli teams... Napoli is on pace to get 80 points this season and, under Cavani, they got 78 points a couple of times.

Big difference is that Juve was getting 90 points and Ibra was at Milan until the end of 2011-2012. So nobody other than Milan and Juve truly had a chance at the title.

That too, that Cavani on this Napoli team would have more than a 2 point lead IMO. Well Lavezzi and Hamsik too as they deserve credit also.

The top of the league was just much stronger so they fell short.

Higuain has just 2 assists this season. He assisted much more in previous two when he wasn't scoring that much. Cavani had 7 assists in his first year, 5 in second and third. Not as good as Higuain, but not "just" a goleador either.

I'm not underrating anything, I think I said many times that he is head and shoulders above anyone else this season. I'm just saying let's wait a bit and see what happens in the end until we proclaim Higuain the undisputed 9 of Naples.

Cavani was scoring 20+ goals a season starting in 2010, they year he transferred to Napoli... so until 2012, Ibra was there.  And Juve became dominant again too and really took over when Ibra left.  Both those teams were winning Serie A with over 80 points , not 80 or less. So Napoli needs to stay on pace and get over 80 points to really compare.

You can't deny that competition is lesser now too. A lot of great players have left.

Yes, but the 2012-2013 was the best year played by Napoli under Cavani , infact got 2nd place, but they never were really a serious contender.
They didn't get better than a -6 from Juve and they even bottled it in home matches like Napoli - Sampdoria 0-0 when they can reduce the gap . It wasn't just because of Juve, but even because of Napoli . Weak mentality. Compettion lesser now ? Never like in 2012-2013. I mean , MIilan got the 3rd place and they were 10th in first half season lol . There was really just the Juventus that season.
I follow Serie A since 1997 so I believe to remind everything very well..

It wasn't a weak mentality though... i just think Mazzarri was very stubborn and, even when the situation dictated that he make an adjustment, he never did.

Cavani was fantastic in the big games with Napoli. He saved them a lot.

So it should be suspended also the judgement Cavani > Higuain tbh
because Higuain is making something really of relevant.
Easily top 5 CFs this year.
For example, no Premier League CFs are having his season.

Surely  the provinciale attitude by Mazzarri didn't help them.
I remind Napoli was nothing when they played away matches.
it was same thing also under Benitez.
Great at home, a lamb away.
Just this year they look like changed, with that 0-4 against Milan but it's soon to say it tbh .. because Napoli played all the big games at home and now they 've them away  , unlike of Juevntus, and it's a factor because Juve looks like favorite for the title.

Yeah because their was better teams, if Ibra's Milan and Conte's unbeaten Juve was in the league today they would have a lot bigger lead than 2 points.

It's not really a fair comparison.

I'm not rewriting history by saying Higuain scores higher in the ( my ) eye test . Laughing
Higuain was also pulling off similar stats to what Cavani was doing at Napoli while sharing the Starting role with Benzema and being constantly upstaged by Tapinaldo . hmm

But i guess it doesn't count because LOLiga , it's easy to score in a big team etc... right ?

Speaking of Higuain..

Reports say Napoli are planning to tie down Gonzalo Higuain with a new contract and a release clause of more than €100m.

The Argentine’s sensational form this season, with 20 league goals in 20 games, has propelled the Partenopei to the top of Serie A.

The 28-year-old’s current deal in Naples expires in 2018, but the club are believed to be concerned that his current buyout clause of €94m could be met given his recent performances.

La Repubblica reports today that the club have a plan to keep him at the San Paolo, with President Aurelio De Laurentiis working towards an extension until 2019.

The newspaper also believes that the new contract would include an increased buyout clause that would break the €100m mark.

Tuttosport also believes that a new deal could be on the way, and writes that talks could open in March or April.

I dont see anyone insane enough to pay 100m.Or maybe there could be someone..

?
in 2012-2013 there was not Ibra at Milan ( he was in PSG, Milan was carried in 3rd place because of many penalty kicks scored by Balotelli   )  and it was not the Juve unbeaten under Conte.

Anyway the Cavani in Napoli has nothing to do with PSG period.
There are various reasons , firstly Napoli under Mazzarri was a team built on counterattack style and Cavani around this project enhanced himself. PSG was different. Besides  I think it's not mistaken to say he is inferior technically (even if he is good in this , he's not Guivarc'h ) to other CFs as exactly Higuain , although he has t he eye for goal ( not lost even in Paris thohgh )
