Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Let's not pretend there aren't any better centre backs than Gabriel or Chambers out there. The "lack of options" excuse doesn't really work for a team with the money and scouting range that Arsenal has. I used the same excuse last summer, but then we went and signed Elneny - there is always a player like that out there, one nobody's heard of, on top the usual established choices.
And depending on who you're buying from, anyone is available if you're willing to spend enough.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
The Mail on Sunday claim Arsenal and Borussia Monchengladbach are in agreement over Granit Xhaka and that the player will likely be announced July 1st.
Gladbach want £30m, Arsenal want to sign for £20m but Bundesliga side are aware he'll be an Arsenal player this summer.
Arsenal also targeting Karim Benzema once more if Aubameyang or Lewandowski join RM. Gonzalo Higuain and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (because of wage demands and age) have been dismissed as possible candidates.

Wenger doesn't like adding new people to his team, so it'll probably happen

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
That would be a hilarious slap in the face. Our only halfway decent captain, in terms of being an actual leader, in quite some time being allowed to join and become useful to our rivals after years of injuries making him next to useless here.
If we don't offer him any role here, can't say I'd blame him if he joined either club, especially Guardiola's City.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
This whole potential scenario just staggers me. I mean, if Arteta is apparently a good enough coach to work under Guardiola, then surely he's a good enough coach for Wenger.
It's like Vieira all over again. Ex-players doing all their coaching badges at Arsenal, then never actually given the opportunity to work for them, and they all go and do good work at other clubs.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I'd be sad if Arteta chooses an opportunity elsewhere over an opportunity at Arsenal.
But if he goes into coaching at another big PL club because Arsenal don't even make him an offer ...
Let's hope that doesn't happen. I have so much respect for Arteta.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Still think we need to look at RM as an area that is a bit of a question mark. No one has nailed it down. Even with Iwobi's emergence there are a number of factors to consider.
He's still quite young and has been in good form for a stretch of matches but is that enough to have him as a nailed on starter for next season? Maybe until the end of this campaign but we can't exactly rely on a few weeks worth of performances for an area where so many have tried and failed. Also, he's been primarily deployed on the left, drifting in and out of position, swapping with Özil a lot. Alexis has actually been playing on the right wing for a while now.
It's not as pressing as, say, signing a CM/CB/ST but it's not a position that fills you with confidence when you see the players we have in Walcott, Ox and Campbell who have all proven either not good enough to trust for long periods of time or (Campbell) inexplicably benched when they've performed.

Much simpler way of doing things:
Walcott out
Lukaku > Arsenal
Walcott out
Lukaku > Arsenal

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Wenger on if Walcott will leave: "I don't know yet.
"I'm not in transfer mode at the moment, but I think he has gone through a bad spell. He has responded very well, because he said: 'Okay, I will work harder and more.'
"Even when he comes on now, you see he is motivated and focused. Let's see how well he finishes the season now.
"You have the emergence of a guy like Iwobi. But the players that did not play [against West Brom]: Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and I forget a few that weren't even in the squad.
"All these players will be frustrated, or the guys who go out will be frustrated. [Danny] Welbeck didn't play, [Joel] Campbell didn't play."
