My opinion on this: unbeaten runs are nice and all, but trophies trump everything. The human memory doesn't remember unbeaten runs as much as trophies. And if I had to choose between breaking Juventus' unbeaten run or winning a major trophy, I would gladly choose the latter without even blinking.

The Demon of Carthage wrote:I just googled it. Apparently, these are the clubs with the longest unbeaten run in all competitions from the top five European leagues:

1. Juventus (2011-12): 43 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions.

2. AC Milan (1992-93): 42 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions.

3. Nottingham Forest (1978): 40 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions.

4. Barcelona (2015-16): 39 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions.

5. Real Madrid (2016-present): 38 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions.

6. AC Milan (1991-92): 36 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions.

7. Real Madrid (1988-89): 34 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions.

8. Manchester United (1998-99): 33 consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions.

A Note from the source: *We have restricted it to clubs from the leagues traditionally considered to be Europe's top five – the top flights in England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France. Clubs from outside these divisions have achieved longer unbeaten streaks, but we had to draw the line somewhere!

Of course, Juve's topping this "in all competitions" is a bit fraudulent since they hadn't qualified for Europe that season.

Yes, it's a little bit misleading, I admit.

Not sure whether 11/12 Serie A should even considered among "Europe's top 5 leagues" :coffee:

Classic RM tearing apart every team around this time of the season and then gets gassed out when it comes closer to the end.

Incorrect. Under Carlo, we exploded in the first half of the season. By the time we got back from the CwC we were dreadful.

This time around it's the exact opposite, we weren't winning convincingly in the first half of the season, but now we seem to be improving significantly.

This is very reminiscent of Barcelona during Enrique's first year where they struggled a lot at the beginning while still managing to win, then exploded in the second half of the season.

I hope we keep playing like this because, for neutrals, this is a masterclass in football.

I hope we win something this year.

If any thing they will start peaking towards the end of the season. CR and Benz were unfit for prettyt much the whole first half of the season. The Bench players where the ones getting the results. Casemiro was injured and rested, Modric had some time off, Bale is injured and will come back fresher albeit lacking match fitness etc

The mix of Madrid youth in there means that the team is fighting regardless of who is starting and at any other club Hames would probably throw a strop and cause a ruckus but even he is working his ass off just to keep up with Vazquez and Ascensio!.

ATM La Liga isn't looking good for any other team and at this rate, Madrid could break la Ligas points record.

Lmao sure they "could" but they'd need more than 19 wins and 3 draws out of their remaining 22 games Laughing

A bad mistake from Rulli gives Sevilla the lead. Ben Yedder with a nice finish.

Sociedad are playing well, though, and making chances. Can certainly see them scoring.

Ben Yedder again, with a fantastic finish

Not good defending from Sociedad at all. Too many individual errors.

But before that, Sevilla opens up a lovely 2-0 lead. Go figure...

4-0 now. Ben Yedder has a hat-trick, Sarabia added the other from a Ben Yedder assist. Would be more if not for some good saves from Rulli.

Has been a top quality performance from Sevilla. A world of difference from the Copa match on Wednesday.

What a game from Sevilla. Absolute domination, Ben Yedder, Drip Dropsi, Sarabia all just carving LaReal open at will. Though some of the goals LaReal conceded were abit comical. Particularly the first two. I guess that's what separates Inigo from really good CBs in the league

Ivan Rakitic is out of Barca's squad against Villarreal. Reports claim it was due to technical reasons?

That's what I read too. What happened? He played one of the highest number of games last season and he is getting ostracised this season. Is Lucho blaming him for Barca's midfield problems?

no way he'll consider going back to sevilla unless things get crazy, like him constantly remaining on the bench.....and even if that happens, the best that could happen would be some sort of loan deal because of his wages , obviously the cash to re-sign him will make things complicated, depending on how much sevilla can afford to splash....i don't see that happening. i think there are clubs around europe that will keep an eye on him if things get awry, before sevilla can even start considering any sort of arrangements

Barcelona don't have a mf problem. People need to Look at Luchos tactics and lack of balls. The teams whole structure is terrible and lacks any balance. Iniesta and Rakitic are sometimes the whole width of the pitch apart. He needs to control Messi.
