how can a goalkeeper just run out for a punch, miss the ball completely and instead punch an opponent, but that's somehow ok?

If a defenders goes for a tackle, comes too late and hits the opponent, it's a foul.

If a goalkeeper goes for a punch, comes too late and hits the opponent, why is this not a foul?

Happens every match for every team. Every team would have 5 penalties each if they were giving out for them.

They both went for the ball. It's a collision if it happens outfield. No one is getting a pen for that ffs.

Not a penalty bruv, He got a clean header before the follow through from Leno. GKs are allowed to that always.

I know this happens all the time, I'm not just asking for van Dijk. Alisson did the same earlier. I'm just baffled by some of those instances not being considered a foul.

I think the unspoken referee rule is that if it happens when it involves a GK. Just allow it. As long as a GK is not spearing an upcoming attacker, it won't be given as a pen.
