Di Biagio named as new Italy U-20 coach
ROME, July 25 - Former Azzurri representative Luigi Di Biagio's is the new Italy U-20 coach. Also confirmed were Alberigo Evani, Daniele Zoratto and Antonio Rocca. Under the proposition of Club Italia, the president Demetrio Albertini and the coordinator of the national youth sectore Arrigo Sacchi, the Italian Football Federation has decided on the new body for next season with the incorporation of some new youth teams for a better two-year program. Evani, who coached Italy's U-18 squad, will coach the U-19, while Zoratto has been entrusted with the Under 17 and Under 16, while Antonio Rocca wil coach the Under 15. The Under 19 and Under 17 will be engaged in their respective European Championships that will begin in the fall: Evani's Azzurini will play their first qualifying stage between October 6th and 11th against Sweden, Romania and Azerbaijan, while Zorratto's squad will play between October 12th and 17th aagainst Denmark (hosts), Austria and Cyprus.
NEW APPOINTMENTS - As for Pasquale Salerno and Francesco Rocca, who coached respectively the Under 20 and Under 17, they were confirmed in the technical staff of Club Italia with new roles: the first as observer of the national team, the second as observer for Ferrara's Under 21. The new face, then, is the entrance into the FIGC of Luigi Di Biagio FIGC who made his azzurri debut on Jan. 28, 1998, in Italy-Slovakia (3-0); he went on to collect 31 caps and score two goals. He was a member of the National teams under the management reignss of coaches Cesare Maldini, Dino Zoff and Giovanni Trapattoni, taking part in the 1998 World Cup, 2000 European Championships and 2002 World Cup squads. As for the women's national team, Pietro Ghedin was confirmed as the senior team coach, while Corrado Corradini, along with coaching the Italy Under 19, will go with the Under 20's to the World Cup which will be held in Uzbekistan in 2012 and Enrico Sbardella will coach the azzurrine U-17.
