Mata and Jagielka to Arsenal?
Arsenal are reportedly poised to break their transfer record with a €20 million move for Valencia midfielder Juan Mata.
The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish club, with the Emirates being viewed as a potential destination for the World Cup winner.
Valencia boss Unai Emery had previously admitted that his player could leave if the right offer were to arrive, while club president Manuel Llorente has maintained that the Under-21 European Championship winner was not for sale.
However, technical secretary Braulio Vazquez has since admitted that there are back-up plans in place if the player leaves this summer.
Now, The Mirror claims that the Gunners have come to an agreement with Valencia over the potential sale of Mata, while The Sun reports that the player himself has told friends that he is set to join the north London club.
Meanwhile, The Independent comments that Manchester City's failure to land Ashley Young - who joined Manchester United - and Samir Nasri has shifted their focus towards signing the Spaniard.
Mata has made 172 appearances for Valencia, scoring 46 goals in the process.
Arsenal have made a fresh bid to sign Everton defender Phil Jagielka, according to The Telegraph.
The Gunners have been on the lookout to strengthen their defence, having conceded the most number of goals among the top four in the Premier League last season.
The north London club's chairman, Peter Hill-Wood, has confirmed that the Toffees have already rejected a bid - believed to be of around £10 (€11.3) million - for the centre-back this summer.
"We have made a bid for him but they didn't think it was enough," he said in the Daily Star.
But the Gunners are now set to make an offer of £12m (€13.7m) for the defender and are willing to pay up to £15m (€17.1m) to sign the England international.
However, Everton are keen to keep hold of Jagielka, who has made 141 appearances in four years at the club, and are holding out for a fee in the region of £18m (€20.6m).

Hill-Wood also confirmed Arsenal have seen a bid rejected for Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka, which was reported to be £10 million.
"We have made a bid for him but they didn't think it was enough," Hill-Wood said. "It is very busy but nothing is actually happening."
Arsenal are also said to be looking to sign Valencia star Juan Mata, with Sky Sports News claiming negotiations began on Thursday night, and the Daily Star says they retain an interest in Lille's Eden Hazard.
Hill-Wood added: "We are trying to buy a few players but it isn't going to happen overnight."

something is going on, because Valencia is already moving to take Canales, not my favored destination for him, but they are close to tie him up. Villarreal would have been a much better place for him to go to.

Re: Mata and Jagielka to Arsenal?
does anyone seriously think that wenger will break his transfer record twice in the same week?
also, where exactly would mata fit in the squad if wenger wants to keep nasri?

Mourinho committed to Karim, Kun went to city
@che, the idea i heard is to play Nasri as AM, and Mata on the left. Gervinho on the right, more bench for walcott, they will all rotate quite a bit.

Why not Wenger has no choice but to spend, Arsenal has the money, and board is behind him and want to spend big.

That makes too much sense. What's likely to happen is....nothing. Wenger will give RVP a contract extension and then hail him as a brand new signing

that would mean fabregas not playing in his best position which would in turn mean benching wilshere as well as benching arshavin, a record signing
remember we're talking about uncle scrooge here...

Re: Mata and Jagielka to Arsenal?
if cesc is staying that is; if he is, and they still sign mata, then i guess they are just increasing their depth, not really smart tho, they need a CF more than they need mata.che wrote:St_Nick09_of_Goal wrote:

i thought it would be a domino effect, cesc > barca, mata > arsenal, canales > valencia

Re: Mata and Jagielka to Arsenal?
Balague on twitter
Mata's clause to sign player cheaper (20-23m euros) finished yesterday. Clubs agreed fee, player happy to go but money didnt arrive...
Spurs tried to get him but he only wanted to go to Arsenal or Barcelona. Without Cesc money, Arsenal didnt want 2 pay.Now he costs 60m euros
Only a superoffer of 30m euros plus will get him but now the most likely scenario is a new contract with Valencia
