What makes you think competition isnt great in france either? imo, all of this is coming from you not knowing the ligue 1, and overrating the top 3 leagues too much.
in france there is lyon, lille, marseille, rennes which had a great season last year as well. It's a very physical and defensive minded league, and if you think Pastore will just get an easier time, you re mistaken lol. it's not a easy road, it's a different one with more perspectives. no other team even got their bid accepted for him.
sorry bro, you are just speaking out of ignorance.

Did any of those teams had their bid accepted for him? PSG came forward with the right offer, i dont think he would have dumped chelsea for us, but this is in no way a step back for him.

the thing is that in football the player needs a proper showcase if he wants to be recognized..just look at Lucho Gonzales he could have been an important part of the national team, but he got lost in portuguese and french ligue...

it was not pastoreĀ“s decision to choose PSG above the teams interested in him, as i said this transfer was product of ZampariniĀ“s greed.

lol, he isnt even making waves in france, in a supposedly "easier road", why would he get recognition? inconsistency master, even the fans dont want him, nothing special.
ronaldinho says hello. Drogba says hi. Hazard says wussup.

That doesn't take away the fact that the competition he'll receive in France is no where near the competition you would receive in Italy, Spain or England. Lets face it, lyon, lille, marseille, rennes aren't nowhere near as good as the major Cl sides...

that is the problem...Lucho could have been better, but the circunstances and the lack of motivation lead to that...i dont get what are you trying to say naming those players...

maybe, but it doesnt mean that he will get an easy ride. Defenses overall in France are better than they are in Spain for example, because of the nature of the league. Robben is ripping the bundesliga, he is considered as a top 5 player many times, yet no one is saying he plays in an easier league.

lack of motivation? that's precisely why big teams didnt go after him, he sucks, that's on him. nothing to do with the league lol.
I'm proving you that players are able to shine in ligue 1, and prove they belong to the top echelon of football, since you previous argument was, "in football the player needs a proper showcase if he wants to be recognized", and you used Lucho as an example.
Lucho is nothing special. That's not because of the league, that's because he isnt that great

Robben, Gomez and co, are considered as among the very best in europe in their area, why wouldnt it be the same in France? things can evolve, and a better marketed league can make it happen.johniet wrote:oh well those are different cases(ronaldinho,drogba)...their "showcase" was French Ligue and they took the next step,(would have they being that great if they get stuck in there)...now Pastore..his showcase was Palermo he got recognition in all Europe and now he decides to joing PSG who is at the same level...
pastore got showcased at palermo? we are watching different football. he has a lot of potential, but he is nothing special not yet.

hahahaha then why the hell 43m euros were paid for a "potential good player"...it would be great if French Ligue reach the top leagues in terms of quality...Germany actually are ahead of Italy, but the reasons have more to do with all that bullshit that was created around 2006

Re: Almost official: Pastore signs for PSG for 43M Euros
So, Nick and Beautifulgame, you guys believe it's realistic to expect PSG to become a CL-top-8-side in the few years to come, or even a top 16? Because I don't mean to discredit the French league, but that simply would be quite a turnaround.
They have spent at least ā¬77m in this window alone (Pastore 43m, Menez 8m, Gameiro 11m, Sissoko 8m, Matuidi 7.5m). Their revenue in 2009-2010 was ā¬83m. That's not a Financial Fair Play meeting equation - one that they should accomplish if they want an UEFA licence.
Sure they can grow their revenue, but what is realistic to expect from that in the next five years? ā¬100m, surely. ā¬120m? Maybe. ā¬140m? That's asking a lot already.
No, I'm sorry, but I can't see the bottom line in any other way than that if Pastore wanted to take the next big step in his career he would have stayed at Palermo until a bigger club than PSG came asking. Joining PSG could be a step forward - remains to be seen - but he had the potential for a bigger step, imho.

Should have waited for a top CL club to come by. Maybe even until next season.

Classic misconception, just because he went for 43M means that he plays like a 43M player. many little factors come up. First of, the price has to do with the potential, i always said it, Pastore style can win him the golden ball, he is flashy, guys like that always look awesome on youtube, and he is a AM that reminds of zidane. Young players are bought at a high price because of their potential, their progression margin not because they are the best, this case is no exception.
There is a business aspect attach to it as well, it's a way put in on the foreground and turn him into a commercial product, image of the club. For a club like PSG that has a lot of work to do improve their image and market themselves better, it's important. High price signings print themselves in your mind like it or not, as star players, easy to market. you will remember Pastore and his 43M price tag when you think of PSG now, specially if you werent that familiar with the club. RM use that strategy with many signings, not to say that Pastore will pay himself for paris but he is now the star of the club, and as he reaches his potential, he will create great hype. Malaga, which is a newly rich club was looking for a marquee signing as well to be the face of their franchise, they looked at Smeijder and Pastore both.
Last, it's a statement of intent. they show that they arent messing around, they are very serious about their football project, but they arent idiots either. They bought a very very talented kid, overspend a little, as opposed to their previous signings, but at least they show they are very ambitious about the sporting project. It's the kind of little details that impact the minds of the people at the club itself, the fan base. They didnt splash around like City, to make themselves look like a joke at first, but they went for a calculated target. Now the price is also high because of Zamp handling his business in this inflated market. Pastore took the opportunity coming to him and there is nothing wrong about it. PSG signed a player top clubs were looking at, but hesitant to pay the money for, too bad for them, it's getting some people really butthurt now.

Re: Almost official: Pastore signs for PSG for 43M Euros
I think it's a very realistic target for them. I dont think it's anything we havent seen before, Lyon did it for many years, they were great in europe, they never looked like winners, but they were always a difficult team to beat. It's very possible for PSG to sustain such rhythm.Art Morte wrote:So, Nick and Beautifulgame, you guys believe it's realistic to expect PSG to become a CL-top-8-side in the few years to come, or even a top 16? look, as far as the FFP, i think you have to establish a positive turnover over a period of 4 years right? might be mistaking sure, but the point is, they arent gonna spend 77M every season on the market (it's actually more). I think they have a margin here, and next you will see them developing endorsement deals and co. Ligue 1 is very watched in the middle east, Al Jazeera was one of the group competing for the tv rights in france, and they got a share. It's all going to come around. Not to mention that the club was being ran by a bunch of muppets, not even able to lift the mentalities, there is something to be done.

Re: Almost official: Pastore signs for PSG for 43M Euros
There is a reason why players like Drogba, Nasri, Malouda and etc etc moved to PL. They started terrorising defenses at France and they reached their cap. Thats when they moved to a new challenge.
Re: Almost official: Pastore signs for PSG for 43M Euros

That's your problem right there. If you were expecting big changes in less than a month you were always going to be disappointed LOL
