Really solid game tonight from the Machete, made up for some of pique's mistakes. He still needs more experience but his strong defensive awareness comes in really handy in games like these. Also notice he doesn't get yellow cards anymore

I was always saying that he is the best sliding tacker on the world, even when he was in Liverpool.

Now, he is CB, "pitbull" type, like Puyol, just what we need. One "tower" (Pique, Fontas, Busquets) and one "Pitbull" (Puyol, Masche). Abidal is something beetween.

He always was, we already knew from last season he can do great at CB... Abidal was good today too, he is back. We don't need a CB.

Alves was great also.. Abidal was gd.. but Pique had a bad day except for the assist (2nd goal)!!

Yes, but what about if he gets injured? You still do need a back up CB

yea but we have fontas who is now in the first team. Also abidal can double as a CB and Adriano can cover at LB as he has done so well
As for midfield: Cesc -Xavi/Thiago-iniesta..notice no dm...because the other team won't get the ball

If even that can't work, put busquets as CB then have a midfield of: Cesc -Xavi/Thiago-iniesta..notice no dm...because the other team won't get the ball

If Mascherano is partnered with Puyol, then all of a sudden it isnt so rosey.

If its with Pique, who compliments his skill set well, then its fine.

Xavier played well at CB but Barca needs CB , they cant just make DM into CB.Maybe with Xavier that succeded but Barca needs natural CB because Puyol and Pique cant last forever

In theory, but against certain opponants Busi at the back is not good.

He is too slow to deal with those small, quick types and he positionally isnt good there either. Maybe he needs more time, but so far he hasnt done well in that position in my opinion.

Mascherano and Abidal? Not enough evidence, im not sure. I am not confident in it, I will say that.

Masch is very very good at CB. Has a very neat tackle in him and isn't afraid to throw himself into challenges. Also, he is fast.

Uou, some of you Madrid fans are really casual football fans! Machete played like 10 games as CB last season including the CL final, and he was superb in most of them.

And then you will want to give lectures about football....

Well he played well there against you guys and started in a Champions League Final. If he's done well against the best 2 opposition teams in the world he's fine.
