MLS attendance record
linkTen Week 26 games averaged 17,646 fans as MLS, with just more than a month left in the regular season, is on pace to break its season attendance record.
* Seattle drew the biggest crowd of the week when 35,940 watched it fall to Real Salt Lake.
* San Jose drew the smallest crowd, but the 10,525 who watched the Quakes end a 13-game winless streak marked its fourth straight sellout at tiny Buck Shaw Stadium.
* New England, which struggles at the gate, drew its third biggest crowd of the season when 15,498 watched it down Dallas.
* MLS's attendance average so far this season is 17,455. The 2010 season ended with a 16,037 league-wide attendance average.
* MLS's highest attendance came in its inaugural season of 1996 -- 17,406.

If Klinsmann continues his work in youth development in USA and the attendance numbers would increase as they do now, I predict a new footballing super power in 10 years
Germany who? Holland who? Spain who?
They'll have your midget Messi, big piggy, their own Snejder etc. USA are one of most multiethnical countries in the world and people are very athletic there to begin with :lol!:

Yeah it's truly great stuff. The league's been growing in attendance slowly, but surely for quite a while. The football still leaves a lot to be desired at times and with some teams, but on a whole, the quality has gotten much better in the last few years.
10 years may still be too soon though.

Re: MLS attendance record
10 years are enough, my intuition is pretty good USA have got sporting facilities everywhere. All you need to train is a ball and a goal= no problem. Then, the biggest stimulus which will drive the sport is money. Football has got unbelievable amount of money involved in it(world wide). Once people will see their fellow Americans go abroad and earn big bucks they'll step up another notch. Among the countries with facilities, USA have got one of largest and most diverse population japan may struggle in their search for tall CBS or physical CFs, USA, not Midget dribblers are no problem either given the amount of Hispanics over thereMcLewis wrote:Yeah it's truly great stuff. Word on the street is that the reason the NYRB front office released the news of this ticket price increase when they did is because they expected the Vancouver game to be a definite win and thought it would soften the blow

What a fail by the Red Bulls lol..
That's absolutely astounding that they would do that.
Where's Jub? He's gonna need to explain this one from RB's point of view.

Re: MLS attendance record
10 years? I don't think so. Football needs to become more popular here, so that more young athletes choose it as their sport of choice over basketball, baseball, our own football...
Imagine if our top athletes had been drawn to a different sport. Lebron as attacking mid? Bosh as center back? Wade as winger?
i hate the Heat btw, NJN is where it's at

Re: MLS attendance record
Biggest problem in MLS, other than talent, is the refereeing. My god it's atrocious. But if football actually catches more commercial interest in the US and it can pay players similar salaries to the NHL, for example, IT WILL EXPLODE.
You guys have to realize that every kid, boy and girl, plays football until the age of 13-14. It only goes away in HS as kids start to specialize and shift towards American football/baseball/basketball. If footy every became one of the preferred sports, it would be all over. The US would become a superpower in 5-7 years (time for the 14 year olds to turn 19-22).

I again, ask for sources of the following statement:
Would be amazing if true, but I highly doubt it.

At least 90% of them. The first sport kids play when they can walk is footy. You have footy camps all the time and kids like to hang out with friends... so they all keep playing the sport. All leagues i was involved with, and i coached 10-12 yo kids for 2 years, you were not allowed to cut players no matter how good or bad they were. Everyone played. So, depending on the the number of kids, we had "a", "b", etc teams. On gamedays, the "a" guys would play the other team's "a" guys etc. Only in high school did you have a system where players were cut based on ability. This was for both boys and girls.
Girls footy obviously is hugely popular because they keep playing (it's a preferred sport). I don't the exact number... but there are 700 women's university teams in the US. That doesn't include club play either. It's nuts.

Re: MLS attendance record
Its only in America, and Canada that we see Football as a posh sport. What with the "soccer moms" and "soccer vans"- "Soccer" is seen more of a livestyle dir3ectly connected to the high mid classes of the subrbs.
however, the most important thing that is turning off any intensive a kid might have of perusing football after hs is due the lack of opportunity and scholarship funding that comes going to college as a footi player (soccer is behind track, football, hockey, basketball, tennis and baseball when it comes to finding a scholarship program )

Everyone plays sports... i mean everyone. School ends at 1:30pm and then everyone goes to training for their sport and the training lasts 2-4 hours (2 hours mandatory and usually kids do extra afterwards). During the summers, there are sports camps that almost every attends. Being in sports is the social thing in the US... you gain status by being good.
I went to school in France until the age of 15. When i went to the US, it was another world. They stunk at footy... and i just didn't want to compete at such a lower level. So i stopped until the HS coach forced me to join once he found out my background. I got banned after breaking a kids leg in the first official game and that was that lol. But i had to do something. It was just part of the social fabric. So i played tennis, american football and volleyball.

Re: MLS attendance record
Yeah, that's what I imagine. The "posh" or upper high middle class kids playing football, the rest of the "low" class playing traditional American sports.
Guess what class the majority of America goes under
That figure smells like BS to me.
