Luca Marrone has revealed that Antonio Conte blocked his Juventus exit during the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old was expecting to be loaned out again, but the Coach, who worked with him at Siena last season, insisted he remain in Turin.

“I thought I’d be back at Siena,” the Italian Under-21 international told the Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday.

“However, Conte wanted me to stay at Juventus. I was happy to, as I know that you have to earn your place in his teams.

“I hope to get my chance, but it will be difficult as there are five players in the middle but only two places on offer.

“And the four ahead of me are all champions…”

Marrone is in competition with Michele Pazienza, Arturo Vidal, Claudio Marchisio and Andrea Pirlo for a place in the side.

“It’s great to have Pirlo here,” added the young Italian. “He’s always been a reference point for people who play in his role.

“I like to be used in front of the defence, but I can adapt to any situation. The most important thing is to be at the disposal of the squad.”
