Dennis Ritchie dies
One of the most influential figures in computer science and tech in general, Dennis Ritchie dies aged 70. His influence in technology and science in my opinion is larger than Steve Jobs would ever be, but no one remembers him and cares about him. Because he was the one who really pioneered and created the road for a lot of later technologies. He was one of the Unix creators (mac OS is based on UNIX) and C programming languages two technologies who helped and reshaped computer programming and internet in general. Basically, almost every technology involving computers and internet we use today has been heavily influenced by this man and his work.
But who do people praise? Steve Jobs? Yeah he brought new toys, but he was no where such a big researcher or innovator as he was a big businessman who's interest was primarily money. He did not change the world in my opinion, at least not as near as Ritchies did, but i guess the later has (ironically to his last name) never been that rich and good sales-man.
On Twitter, developer James Grimmelman said: "Ritchie's influence rivals Jobs's; it's just less visible."
RIP Dennis Rithchie!
