Sturridge: It was easy decision to leave Chelsea

Daniel Sturridge has admitted the decision to join Liverpool from Chelsea was easy and simply a case of "When can I come?"
The 24-year-old brought his stop-start four-year Blues career to an end in January 2013; leaving Stamford Bridge for Anfield in a £12 million move.

Sturridge has not looked back since, netting 19 goals in just 26 Premier League appearances before an ankle injury halted his momentum at the end of November.

Having joined Chelsea from Manchester City in summer 2009, the speedster struggled to hold down a regular first team place, making just 31 league starts under Carlo Ancelotti, Andre Villas-Boas, Roberto Di Matteo and Rafael Benitez.

He therefore jumped at the chance of a fresh start under Brendan Rodgers, who Sturridge had encountered in the past playing in the FA Youth Cup.

Speaking exclusively in the February 2014 issue of FourFourTwo, Sturridge says: "I first met [Rodgers] when I was at Man City and we played his Chelsea team in the Youth Cup. We beat them, so I've had a good time reminiscing with him about that!

“It was easy [to leave Chelsea]. I was ready to go and wanted to further my career. When Liverpool came knocking there was only one outcome.

“Liverpool are an unbelievable club with great history... it wasn’t a case of “Should I go?”; it was more like “When can I come?” When they put the bid in for me I was just thinking about getting myself up the motorway as fast as possible!”

First time this season he's scored a brace, the rest of his goals have come 1 by 1.

Has only failed to score against Soton, Arsenal and Fulham.

Absolutely brilliant player. Evolved so much under Rodgers from the raw unfinished product into a complete and composed structure of finesse and unpredictability. Evolved his once poor footballing IQ into an all seeing figure of the attack whose inner tranquillity allows him to screen all the finest options and optimize on them.

His first finish was pure class, the second one a product of excellent technique. His Balotelli-esque celebrations even more the worthy. Never expected him to turn into the player he is today, the fact that he has scored 4 goals in 3 games on returning after 2 months is unreal. Gil was right about him all along.

So lucky to have man, absolutely love him.

I used to be one of hes biggest haters, but ever since the move to Pool, Brendan has totally transformed him into a more matured, a lot more composure and has been involved in the offensive scheme quite well, especially the linkup with the Suarez. Good for him because the only thing that is worth to mention about his technical level is his pace.

I don't think he's getting the respect he deserves still honestly.

He was carrying Liverpool while Suarez was suspended and IMO at least continued to perform above him until his injury.

What people forget is that Suarez's form didn't explode until after Sturridge got injured.

But because he doesn't go past 4 or 5 players and nutmeg defenders he doesn't get hyped very much which is unfair.

Sturridge has show that he has far more to his game than goals and pace. His touch and control is at times immaculate, his passing underrated, and his intelligence and movement have been arguably the best in the LFC side this season. His ability to time his runs behind the backline, drop off of defenders to create space for himself, and drag defenders around to create space for his teammates has been absolutely superb all season and deserves recognition.

He pulled an amazing Ibra-esque move and pass to Sterling at 0-0 which Howard saved the 1 vs 1 after doing some keep ups.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge ensured he will be the centre of attention off the pitch as well as on it after he went for a spin in his new car - a Ferrari 458.

Sturridge's eye-catching new motor was snapped on Castle Street in Liverpool today and is one of the first 458s in the country.

It is capable of going from 0-60 in just 3.3 seconds - not much faster than Sturridge himself as Everton's defence found last night ( hmm

) - and has a top speed of 202mph.

He's in the top 3 goalscorers this season despite missing 2 months from injury.

If he didn't miss the penalty, he'd be second, behind Suarez.

With Aguero out with injury, Sturridge could overtake him and Liverpool could have 2 players in the top 2 in terms of the PL golden boot. Proud

He's in the top 10 for goals scored in all of Europe (in regards to domestic league only), with 13 goals in 15 games. He's one goal behind Aguero (who's played 1 more game) who's in the sixth spot. He's on par with Cavani, who's played 5 games more.

The mercurial talents of the Platini/Zidane/Henry/Van Basten/ Hybrid that is Benzema plays for Real. His elegance and poise is something that is of a rare breed, not just in footballers, but as a living being.

Watching him in his craft, seeing him play with such guile and fluidity is like watching a masterpiece being created. I've shed tears at some of his passes.
It's a shame he is only limited to football, the world may never get to see how far out he can reach.

Not really a great pass, it's clear that Sterling's pace made the play happen.
