Who do you think was the best striker of 2011?
Goallegacy's best Striker of 2011
And here it is, this promises to be the best poll of them all. The final place in the formation is of course the Centre Forward, and we've had several great ones this year. The one with most votes will complete the XI, the runner up will sit on the bench. To remind you, this is the XI so far:
----------Neuer
-Alves-Silva-Vidic-Marcelo
-----Busquets-Xavi
---Messi-Silva-Ronaldo
-------------ST
These are the candidates for this final position. I tried to include as many as possible this time.
Kun Aguero- Argentina and Atletico Madrid/Manchester City
Karim Benzema- France and Real Madrid
Samuel Eto'o- Cameroon and Inter/Anzhi Makhachkala
Mario Gomez- Germany and Bayern Munich
Zlatan Ibrahimovic- Sweden and Milan
Wayne Rooney- England and Manchester United
Roberto Soldado- Spain and Valencia
Robin Van Persie- Netherlands and Arsenal
And of course a Happy New Year to everyone.

Re: Goallegacy's best Striker of 2011
Put up the numbers for all the others if you have them.
Benzema 2011 for Real Madrid in official games
3180 minutes played : 160 shots : 35 goals : 15 assists.
Goal/Assist every 63.6 minutes"
French Player of the year 2011.
Stats generated from

Don't know about 2011 as a whole, but so far this season Gomez has the best numbers, 16 goals from 16 starts (1 goal/start ratio), which is better than all the strikers on the poll.
Only Ronaldo and Messi (who should be included in this poll) have better ratios.

Gomez and van Persie are the only guys who have maintained form the whole year.
Benezema didn't do anything noteworthy last season.

Re: Goallegacy's best Striker of 2011
If Eto'o stayed, it would've def been him.
He was with a broken team, the heroes of the previous season (Maicon, Sneijder and Milito) weren't themselves. Mou left. Young brilliant Mario Balotelli left.
Led the team, and did everything you'd want from a striker. Probably his best individual season as ST.
53 games, 37 goals and 15 assists.
But, that's only one half of 2011.
It's gotta be either Gomez or RVP. They've been fresh throughout.

Higuain has better ratio than all of them...but he was injured last season

Re: Goallegacy's best Striker of 2011
Sorry, but last season was Ronaldo breaking records left and right. We're judging strikers and that is mainly goals and consistency. Benz was in his shadow and so was Higgs.
Only RVP and Gomez fit that bill, sad to say.

Re: Goallegacy's best Striker of 2011
My vote :
1) RVP
2) German Denis (other)
3) Mario Gomez
Denis is the definition of underrated. Leading scorer of a side deducted 6 points and mid table at very best, he has single handedly worked that club up the table. Not to mention his shot to goal ratio is outstanding. My hat goes off to him

Re: Goallegacy's best Striker of 2011
Well.....If your judging soley by goals and consistency then I'd give it to RVP.
But Sushi you are underrating what Benz achieved this year, sure he was in Ronaldo's shadow....but if you take a closer look you'll realise that Ronaldo took approximately 3x the shots Benz took and probably played near twice the minutes. One thing's for certain he didn't score 2x or 3x the goals.
You would be hard pressed to find someone with a better Goal or Assist/ Minute Ratio........or Goal:Shot ratio.( Gomez is one).
@LM Yep......I didn't see either of the other two canidates do anything of not in the CL.Maybe his 2 goals and an assist in 4 games against Barca is more noteworthy.
For me the best performance any of the canidates gave was RVP's hattrick against Chelsea.
RVP has been brilliant this year....I have no problems with that......but you really don't need to put down Benz to say that.
Of all the canidates....he is the only one with a title to his name.....granted he didn't even play in the title game he was great throughout the competition.
If the criteria is as stoically set as Sushi would have it....RVP should win.
