It's not a lifetime contract, mate, just a long term one... probably a two year extension or something similar.

He's also agreed to take on an ambassadorial role with the club once he retires, which is fantastic news.

May not be lifetime, but considering his age and the stipulation of the ambassadorial role, it seems unlikely that he will be leaving the club.

I thought in similar lines with you but in his interview he mentioned something that did excite me more . . .

"It's really flattering for me that the club have offered me the chance to stay when I eventually hang my boots up," he added. "Hopefully that will be in many years to come because I want to play for as long as I can.

Plus as you have already mentioned the fact that he will stay on as an ambassador for LFC . . . . all in all i summarized . . . a little too ecstatic Very Happy

Fahim, great thread, great pics.

I'm not surprised that he signed a contract given him and Carra would be the last to leave.

I am happy that he will decide to take a role in any form after he hangs his boots as his presence alone can is a great representative.

All I can do is marvel as this man who I have looked up for as long as I can remember as my heart flutters when he comes off the bench onto his ovation.

I've ran out of superlatives to describe this wonder but all I can say is thank you Steven Gerrard.

Interesting quote from Comolli on Gerrard signing a new contract:

"When you talk to players, whether they are in the Premier League, in other divisions in England or outside of the country, very often they say 'will Steven Gerrard be here?' and 'what's his contract situation because he's so good I want to play next to him?''

Maybe they announced the new deal to try and tempt targets?
