It's because Ramos gets fancy with the ball, he starts to dribble and all, play long with accuracy and quite frankly for a while, he was crystal clean but that was a couple of months ago.

This match yes, but to be fair it's just one match, lets just wait and see what happens in the second leg, when Madrid are forced to attack a lot more instead of give up to defending at half time.

Pepe was our best defender. Ramos was at fault for both goals. I wouldn't label him shit because of one game. Let's see how he'll react in return leg.

this result definitely favors madrid 2-1 home win in a nockout stage is never a good result..

Because we just need to score an early goal in Spain and hit you guys with counter attacking football and from the wings.

But seriously I am not really happy with the 2:1 win but I feel we out-classed Madrid in this match, it sort of give me confidence that we can repeat thesame performance in 2nd leg, especially if you guys face Barca.

I agree there is still a lot to play for, but 2:1 is much better than 1:1

The 1-1 was favouring us. When they slammed in that late goal, Bayern became favourites for the tie. However, one early goal at home and suddenly we are on the upper hand, so its all to play for.

As said before, his positioning is not something you find in a top flight CB. He leaves far too many holes.

when he covers left and right flank he does it as a second defender which means the opponent either has already lost ball possession or he is in a vulnerable position,

so the opponent has as choices to fake the cross keep moving fake the cross and the same time make the dribble from a possible tackle to block the cross from the lb

facing the LB the opponent can either go to the corner to cross or do the "robben move" going outside the penalty area
so lb has to cover a lot more space which means the opponent has a lot more choices to go to and dribble which makes it more difficult to get tackled and also a lot more exhaustive

do you often see coentrao playing? everytime he tackles closer to the midfield rather than the area above he is 99% successful

Of course i am taking note, he made several valid points.

But to say that the CB or DM which was the position Masch formerly excelled at, do not encounter just as much 1v1 situations is wrong.

Even when the the CB has to deal with an attacker as "second defender" as he called it, he is in a position to make a last ditch tackle in dangerous positions.

The opportunities for a CB to tackle doesnt just involve 1 vs 1 situations either. You can put a tackle in as a support to a team mate, while tracking back the attack etc...

Defenders that play in a highline often finds themselves in 1v1 situations on counters and will often be in a position to tackle as we so often see with Pepe or Masch or Pique at Barcelona. Often, they have to make use of their tackling while coming from behind which is to me the most difficult and delicate situation to be in. The schematics representing the CB choices when defensing is awfully limited. What happen if the attacker is found in space by a through ball? Defender has to come back and often tackle away the danger.

Now as for Coentrao being a good tackler, sure he is. But using him as an example to generalize that it's harder for a LB to tackle doesnt work for me.

Coentrao is not the kind of LB that closes down his opponent the way someone like Abidal, Lham or even Arbeloa would. So he is often going to give space to his attacker to face him, in which case he will use his athleticism and reactions to defend. It's not characteristic of all LB because many dont have to slide down to win challenges.

Your argument is built on the premise that tackling only happens in 1v1 situations, which to me is wrong to begin with.
