I think it all falls down to how Napoli approached this tie, given their goals advantage, the crisis in the club before Di Matteo stepped in, and their aging, slow squad, Napoli were seen as favorites walking out of Stamford still in CL.

They played very daft. They couldn't string passes together and relied on Lavezzi the carry the ball and leg it for them. Chelsea were brilliant in pressuring them and cutting them from their fluid passing and setting up their own attacks. Ramires was absolutely brilliant tonight. You might of seem me around criticizing Ramires for being too much of a headless chicken, please slate me for I was so wrong. He's been massive for the club in pressuring, retaining, and carrying the ball forward.

Only in the dying minutes we saw Napoli contain the ball and play their game without having Chelsea intervene. A style that should've been utilized from the opening to last minute of normal time. I think Napoli came to Stamford with their heads held too high.

Well done Chelsea in playing a Napoli-esqe game. Pressured them into mistakes and had them pay for it.

I was definitely deceived. This Napoli was unrecognizable to the one that thumped Chelsea two weeks ago. Only thing that changed from what I can see is that Mazzarri was back in the dugout.

I think the point of deception comes in when:

Chelsea can play Napoli at their own game

Come on Napoli was so unlucky esp in the first half. I congrat to the Chelsea fans they did great but Napoli was damn unlucky and Maggio was missed to damn much

They were piss poor defensively. Just not good enough on the night and showed their inexperience when up against it.

Napoli was kind of unlucky, they had a lot of minor decisions go against them.

Still effects the momentum of Napoli. Still not enough to warrant an excuse for losing 4-1 but still..

Napoli had very few decisions go their way during extra time, however it's hardly an excuse. Lazy and incompetent defending, predictable and slow build-up play combined with selfish and rushed play when the pressure was on cost Napoli.

Chelsea did what strong, experienced teams do, they punished a team off their game and took their opportunities when they needed to. They made their own luck, so credit to them, though aside from all of my other feelings for Napoli, I really wanted them to punish Chelsea for AVB's sake.

Really? You seem to forget Napoli trashed them few weeks ago with the exact same formation.

Napoli didn't play, by no means, a 343.

The problem was that they went terribly out of shape with it when defending.Lavezzi didnt track Ivanovic with the intention of utilizing the space left by him and he was able to initiate a lot of counter attacks too,but defensively it back fired and none of the counters never really resulted in any goals too.

Chelsea were prepared for the right flank attack and their defenders especially terry did fantastic job to cover for their full backs going up.The amount of space Chelsea got to cross into far post from either flanks really influenced the game result.

chelsea wanted an open game from the beginning and they opted for a risky 1 DM formation with Essien alone in holding role( kinda like Arsenal vs Milan second leg song as a lone DM) and it payed off really well.

It should be noted that Di Matteo opted to play Drogs as a typical 9 wh bullies defenders instead of AVBs link up man wanna be,and look how it payed off,AVB was clueless on that aspect.

I was surprised with Torres trying to dribble and succeeding in some lol,looks like he got alot of confidence back from AVB firing lmao.

523 or 343 not a big difference really,when fullbacks move up it becomes a wide 343 in Napolis case.
