Is Özil World Class?

I have heard that people said that messi was shit/flopped in that game and imo he did more than özil, so saying that he was less than average is not that hard on özils performance..

Saying he was less than average implies that the average footballer could do what he did in that game.

Which is utter bullshit.

Messi was better just because you had more posession and he got more touches....but I have to wonder...did he do 1/4 of the defensive work Ozil did...after all....according to Dmac and co ..."it's 1/2 of the game".

well, he didnt need to cause real madrid attacked like 4 times the whole game and still scored more than us

He did 2 things that average players can not do and that was his assist and that run, but apart from that he did not do anything that made me think that he was a special player.

and that messi was better simply because of how many touches he had does not matter. Whenever messi had the ball he had a bus parked infront of him while özil only had 2-3 players at most infront of him. No matter who you are, its always easier to create anything when you have özil's advantage then when you have messi's.

He is surrounded by good players and that effects his stats , is he a world class player? I dont think so , then again he age might save his az but i did not consider the age factor

Stat's are pretty much meaningless anyway, but ofcourse he is a worldclass player he is one of Real Madrid's best players. imo only second to Ronaldo, and he is maybe Germany's best too.

well at the end it goes to ur definition on world class , i rather call those world class that can be included the 3 of the best in their position , also the fact they shouldn't be easily replaceable and i dont see Ozil in any of those categories

he as a attacking midfielder/winger in the formation of 4 2 3 1 in Madrid and putting him ahead of players who has been playing in that position and thrived for more years than Ozil professional football all together is a complete disgrace and distaste and i am amused how the new generation of football fans are in the rush to make an idol from a player in one day and boo him the the after .

Definitely world class and top 3 in AMC playmaker position imo. Personally rate him the best atm as I don't think Messi or Iniesta play the same role. Not many players are able to display 'effortless-ness' when they play and Ozil is certainly one of them. He is also one of the most effective user of the ball in the attacking third atm.

He has been performing brilliantly in Bundesliga for a while, until madrid noticed him in WC. Easily beat kaka, xavi, iniesta this season.

Ozil has had a tremendous second half of the season, and has easily been Real Madrid's best attacking player in 2012. In the first half of the season, don't get me wrong, he was providing us with some magic, but he was far from consistent. This year, however, he has performed exceptionally well, and has actually had two great games against Barcelona, for a chance. He is the best number 10 in the world, and it's just a shame that we never tried harder to buy him. Is he world class? Those who have genuinely watched him play week in, week out can answer that question. Obviously, YES!
