Has Pepe earned a place among the best Center backs in football?

who does he have still standing ahead of him?

I don't like him, but top 10 sounds reasonable.

Top 10 IMO.

The problem with Pepe is, quality wise (defensively) he is a top 10 centerback.

But there are more than 10 centerbacks I would rather have, because he is a nutcase ready to go at any moment for no apperent reason.

Tempermental issues,Disciplinary record aside i think he's a world class 'Defender'..

But i feel like Ramos might not be the ideal partner next to him.

The physical aspect of his game cannot be underestimated. He really is a beast and his marking abilities is top notch. However, the man can be very brainless and uber aggressive. Not to mention very cynical (which is actually a good thing for a defender).

Pair him with someone in a Hierro mold and he would flourish. Pair him with someone like himself (Ramos), well, you have what is currently Real Madrid's centre back pairing.

All in all, a good defender that can be great depending on who you pair him with. To be fair, there are better centre backs out there but not too many as I know would be listed soon enough.

I agree with that, he also needs be alongside someone with a brain as he goes around looking to put out fires for no reason when he should hold his position.

Probably why he worked well as a DM atleast from a defensive standpoint.

Who are those 10 defenders?

He does look very good when he plays DM, as a pure destroyer, if i was playing a 433, i could put him there. Nightmare for the opposing AMs.

Chiellini,Hummels,Silva,Pique,Vidic,Kompany,Barzagli are the defenders i think that are better than him.

Barzagli has had a monstrous season , would be interesting to see if he keeps up the same form in Euro as well the coming season especially since we are in the CL.

At the start of the season i wouldnt have called Barzagli a better defender than Pepe.

I rate Badstuber higher aswell ( lol if you must) Do rate Pepe above Ramos though.

To me Barzagli,Hummels,Mascherano and Ramos are not better than Pepe..

Many other you said are almost equal with pepe and some are better.

Pepe has been playing at top level and International level for many years.

while Barzagli who hasnt even been in CL is now better ? lol

Agreed on Barzagli..But if he performs at the Euro and in CL to the levels he's performed this season i wouldnt hesitate to call him a better defender..

I would rather have Thiago Silva, Vidic, Pique, Kompany, Koscienly, Hummels, Chiellini (I would put him there), Puyol (if for just 1 season so age dont matter) , Bruno Alves and probably depending on the partner Terry.

I personally hate him at DM, he doesnt hold his position and is way too quick to hoof. His best midfield performance to me, was when he was the highest midfielder up the pitch and pressed. Of course, once he got the ball he was terrible, but still.

In terms of qualities he is easily top 3. His tackling is amazing. If he had a brain.

he hoofs the ball too much,i dont think he would succeed as a dm unless playing against a team that has much more possession aka barca

I think you overrating Koscielny just a tad Dani...... if Koscielny is better than Pepe then Agger and Coloccini are aswell.......

Koscielny has had a fantastic season but thats it really and i dont think he's been the best CB in the league far from it.....

And its not like he's playing with scrubs either.... there are better defenders around who play with worse players that are better than Koscielny IMO....

I dont think he should even be in this discussion.
