Knowing Arsene, as a squad player for the wings, like we used Benyoun last time.. But I would prefer use him in the middle as a cover/rotation for Cazorla till Rosicky is back to fitness.. Much depends on whether AA23 is comfortable with this role in the team and if he is able to replicate his earlier form and finesse coming off the bench as an impact sub..

Re: Pre-season 2012-13 Thread
Vermaelen hails impact of new Arsenal assistant manager Bould
The Belgium international believes the former centre-back's extensive playing experience will prove invaluable to the playing staff following his promotion after Pat Rice retired.
Thomas Vermaelen has hailed the promotion of Steve Bould as Arsenal’s new assistant manager.
The former centre-back replaced the retiring Pat Rice at the end of last season after stepping up from his previous position as Academy manager.
Bould spent 11 years at Arsenal in a playing capacity, winning three league titles, two FA Cups and one Cup Winners’ Cup in the process, and Vermaelen believes the 49-year-old’s extensive experience is invaluable to the squad.
“Steve is really good to work with, especially for defenders as he has been a defender himself,” Vermaelen told Arsenal Player.
“He knows what it is all about and gives us a lot of tips. He works a lot on the shape of the team and that is very important, so I am very happy he came to work with the first team.
“He is very focused on details. A lot of players, because we are getting older, we know how to play. But he looks at details and the shape of your body and to be honest I am learning a lot from him.”
Arsenal are currently nearing the end of their pre-season preparations ahead of the start of the new Premier League season against Sunderland on August 18.
And, with just a game against Koln to come on Sunday, Vermaelen feels the training schedule has been beneficial to the playing and backroom staff alike as they pinpoint the areas which need attention before the season kicks off.
The Belgium international added: “We have to get the shape of the team right. We have been working on it throughout pre-season and we are focusing on that.
“I think having your shape right is one of the most important things in football, whether you have the ball or don't have the ball. We are working really hard on that and Steve does the job really well.”

"It's like... Looking into the Sun..."
"Alright, smile for this picture fellas. Then you can go back to not understanding each other."
Arteta, his candid photos are better than most models'
*Must not look at Olivier, then I'll have to make small talk with him. He's clearly forever alone.*
"What do you mean 'no tanks allowed in the pool'?"
"Anyone else notice how warm the water is by Diaby?"
"Quit tickling me Diaby! You'll hurt yourself!"
"And then they said I was leaving Arsenal. And I'm not even captain yet!"

Re: Pre-season 2012-13 Thread
So Arsenal vs Cologne Tomorrow
Will be nice to see our full team. Want to see how much fitness work is still left.
Want to go with this team
------------------------------Szczesny--------------------------------
Yennaris-----------Koscielny---------------Vermaelen------Gibbs
------------------Song----------------Arteta--------------------------
Gervinho----------------Cazorla-----------------------Podolski
------------------------Van persie------------------------------------
I guess most of them will be replaced at Half time. We would see Giroud as well.

Re: Pre-season 2012-13 Thread
Pretty pumped to see Podolski, Giroud, and Santi in action tomorrow.
Would like to see Jenks given the nod as well.
And even though its pre-season I think its a big game for Gervinho, he could potentially win that RW spot if he out performs Theo imo.

Same here, I think Gervinho could be a real force this year if he carries his pre-season form into the league although AFCON is really really annoying. I knew last year wouldn't be much to judge him on since it was his first year and AFCON destroyed his confidence. He's looked like a killer in pre-season. Should give Wenger selection headaches.

Arteta has been carrying a knock in training, not playing because of that. Don't know about Sunderland yet.
