Better late than never, a thread to talk about the upcoming games. Currently playing Club America of Mexico. Around the 28th minute and still 0-0. We are doing most of the attacking and the players seem very up to this.

Madrid line up
Navas
Dani Nacho Varane Marcelo
Modric Casemiro Kroos
Benzema Ronaldo Vasquez

1-0 at the stroke of HT due to Benzema. Excellent work from Ronaldo, Modric and a fine ass through ball Kroos finished off quite well by Benzema.

So far, so good.

2-0 and quite frankly, Madrid really did not put all that much effort in this win. Maybe it was due to having an actual DM adding real muscle in our midfield.

Also, did not know FIFA using video assistance now.

We didn't put a lot of effort in this win, and rightly so. This is one of those games where you should save your energy and be content to do just the bar minimum.

Still, we dominated everything and created many clear-cut chances. Can't complain.

The ref even did the whole "box" signal umpires use in cricket. Cute.

Yeah, it was really pleasant for a change not to be stressed out about holding on to a lead. Considering the time the matched showed down in these parts, would have been absolutely sour if it were a Deportivo or Sporting sort of match.

@Hala
A low down you say. Nothing much to speak of honestly. We controlled the game for the vast majority with America really only having half chances to speak of. Goals at the end of each half and everyone played at a moderate pace.

You may wonder what exactly is the purpose of Benzema until you see his goal then get reminded why he is still very rated.

As for the Vasquez mini discussion, he was good but Joaquin or Javi de Pedro he is not.

Finished the first half. Kroos, Ronaldo and Lucas running the show. Modric's been very very quite. Is it just me or do Ronaldo and Lucas have a very good understanding. Great interchanging between the two. Defence with nothing to do but Marcelo's deliveries have been atrocious and Carvajal hasn't gotten very involved in attack.

Kroos though  I remember when we bought him people were saying that we were only getting a sideways passer Laughing this guy is breathtakingly good and his passes are inch perfect, left, right, centre it doesn't matter he always gets it where it needs to go

Yeah, Modric shined in the 2nd half in my opinion and for either to work really well, Casemiro must be there. Definitely frees up a lot of responsibilities for either.

Second half done

Much better half from Benzema and Modric. Marcelo and Carvajal still poor offensively. Casemiro mopping up. Nice cameo by James. Motm imo is between Ronaldo, Lucas and Kroos

Wonder who'll play the final. ZZ made the subs so late. Something tells me there'll be rotations in midfield and perhaps the defence

Well I don't moan about the players we have especially when said players have played great and helped us win tough games. Lucas has played against PSG, City, Atleti, Barca, Sevilla, Celta, Bilbao you name it and we haven't lost against a single one of them, in all of them we have gone through attackers or midfielders in poor form but he has maintained a great level in all of them, you could put Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Bake on his wing and we'd still be able to stop them. He could've had at least 4 assists yesterday. He and Ronaldo were at the heart of everything good that happened.

Lucas works hard on both ends of the pitch and we are better for it. If it'd be up to me he'd be a starter but alas Bale ahead of him is playing great too. If it were up to you we'd buy new players every year after a few weak games. Our tactics are shit, our players are shit, our coach is shit we are just winning using some vodoo shit spell ZZ learnt watching Pep teach him about tiki taka and positional football No

Go bump ZZ is the worst coach thread wait you can't do that, well then bump the we need new wingers thread oh wait you can't do that either. Oh well just bump the sell Ronaldo thread then.......NOt even THAT Shocked

If you aren't happy with our players just go support City with the Nolitos, Gundogans, Otamendis you know the players you wanted for us who can't even buy a game against Celtic and leave our team to the likes of Lucas, Casemiro, Morata, Marcelo, Carvajal you know guys you don't even rate who will keep helping us win and keep getting standing ovations by our fans for their performances. There is a reason why they play despite us buying expensive players in their position and let me tell you this it's not because they are average.

I come in here see posters calling Lucas average, I watch the game expecting him to be poor and he gives me a MOTM performance Laughing

It's not that I am a bad poster, I just don't follow the general motto of shitting on my own players for no reason because I've watched a good performance of someone else in another team. My players are the best apart from a few I can't even defend and that's how it'll be until they show me otherwise

Watching Lucas play and you can tell he is a good player. He just can't/don't do what the great Spanish wingers would do and nothing is wrong with that since his talents are working for him currently. An average footballer would not start for Real Madrid.

As for yesterday, he was good, linked up really well with Ronaldo who seems to have an understanding with him. Also @Hala, relax. Nick didn't take the piss at you or Lucas. The man, since Lord knows when, has always proclaimed Lucas as average.

Agreed he's not like the typical Spanish. He is more of an EPL winger with more trickery and better crosses. You won't see a Juaquin anytime soon I tell ya. There is too much emphasis on scoring goals wingers of today forget their main duties which is to be a supporting player for the striker. Lucas does all the basics right. He won't give you goals but he'll give you lovely crosses, the sort CFs die for.

I am more relaxed than ever my friend Proud . I am fully aware of Nicks gripes with most of our players. I think he only rates one or two, maybe three but that'd be a stretch. All the best players are not in our club unfortunately. Tbh we are punching above our weights with this unbeaten record, just a matter of time before we do a Leicester and our average players finally get found out. Until then peasants like us will just have to enjoy them while it lasts

Nick & others just want so called superstars at every position!!

Only problem is we have tried that before (galacticos) and I say it is proven you can't have a TEAM with all alpha stars. You need good to average players to complement the "superstars" on the team.

This current team started off roughly, with questions of tactics, coaches ability, form of several players and a multitude of injuries. But in past 3 or 4 weeks, this team is looking formitable and unlike the team under Carlo, Zidane has entire team useful and part of the team's success. I say it is time, we fans sat back and start enjoying these performances.

Back to thread op, there was an upset this morning, the Columbia team lost to a Japanese team??

Should be a realtively easy trophy on Sunday.
