Neither did RVP or Modric

so his team is semi-professional, came 2nd in the league

scored 16 goals in 32 games. was voted Welsh League player of the season 2 years in a row

He probably got into the list because one or two Welsh or other journalists put up his name as 1st as a joke.

I'm not saying Torres should be there either but I don't think Gomez should, I simply don't rate him highly. He was beaten domestically by Huntelaar and when he came up against any sort of good opposition he went to pieces, missing sitters.

Modric doesn't play for a top side nor country but will be top 5 in the world in his position soon when he joins Madrid.

Well neither was Huntelaar chosen, a player who was the Bundesliga's highest scorer and who outscored Gomez for the entire season, with both forwards ending trophyless. Strong arguments could obviously be put forward in favour of both making the list of course, certainly I would have both there over Torres. This isn't about the quality of Torres as a player, before I'm attacked by the Chelsea section, merely his contributions for the year.

Personally if I were to nominate a Bayern Munich player my first thought would be for either Kroos or Ribery.

Also I'm going to merge this with the other thread discussing the shortlist now that it's diverged away from the specific topic of Leslie Davies.

Yeah I guess could have been a number of different players. Sad to see that they just go by names thse days, don't really think Lampard deserved to be there either yet Mata missed out

Frankly, I don't take those publicity contest seriously for a while now. It is all about who is best marketable and who has the biggest lobby nowadays. ^^
