He wanted to go, as his wife works in Hamburg and they made a profit on him

VDV didn't want to stay in a sinking ship.

They didn't really need him and sold him before it was too late. Tottenham have Dempsey, Sigurdsson and Dembele now.

He's better than all those players.

Why does he have to move, why can't his wife move..? Logically I think he probably makes more money and women should live where their husband reside.

If he moves to Hamburg, his wife also lives where he resides.

lol... I guess if that was his decision it's ok.
But I wouldn't move because of my wife especially if I am making serious dough. she moves to where I work or I marry someone else.
Just kidding, I'm not like that, but I truly respect his lover boy decision.
Re: Why did Tottenham sell VDV???
Well, Sylvie van der Vaart earns substantial money herself - she is in fact a huge star in Germany and appears in lots of shows and everywhere here. BTW, I'm not sure if you followed that she suffered from breast cancer not long ago and her husband has been absolutely supportive of her during that time and even put back his own interests to help her through it, too. I think he is a really great guy measured on how he cares for his wife. The Messiah wrote:rwo power wrote:Male chauvinistThe Messiah wrote:Why does he have to move, why can't his wife move..? Well...I didn't know the entire story.
I am so so wrong for saying all I said, Family first before anything, well if you believe in religion then God first.
He did a great thing and he's a great man, he earned all my respect.

For AVB's system, without a doubt.
VDV is lazy and doesn't suit a pressing game, which is why Sigurdsson was preferred.

Re: Why did Tottenham sell VDV???
firstly avb wanted to clean house and secondly vdv and his family wanted to move back to hamburg, they loved living in madrid, amsterdam and mainly hamburg i dont think they liked london as much.
overall it was a family based decision and i think he will either retire there or ajax.

I always got the feeling VdV felt as if he thought he was bigger than the club whilst playing for Spurs. Can't blame him really.

VDV as a man has my respect. He sacrificed a lot for his wife and made sure every decision he made was also in Sylvie's best interests.
Real A1 man and I would take him at Madrid in a heartbeat.

Re: Why did Tottenham sell VDV???
I like VDV's decision to be with his wife. Honestly, he's not getting any younger, and has spent a fair amount of time away from her already. If he feels that his club career has peaked, he might as well move somewhere that he can get regular football, be admired as a club hero, still compete at a fairly high level, and be with his wife. In the same situation, I think I would make the same decision.
With Tottenham's moves in the transfer window, his place in the team was suddenly going to garner a lot more competition. (And, that was before they bought Dempsey.) Sigurdson, Dembele, and Dempsey are all palyers that can play "in the hole", and they all could regularly start in the Prem League. I think VDV could've kept his spot if he had stayed, but it would have been far more difficult than in the past.

Re: Why did Tottenham sell VDV???
The reasons why Spurs sold VDV are pretty clear cut and obvious, any club would do the same. Player wanted away, wanted to be with his wife- return to Germany...they were still able to make a profit and VDV was getting up there in years- 29, and they have suitable replacements in all of Dembele, Dempsey, and Siggy.
Overall a great deal for both VDV and Tottenham.

He's been doing this his entire career though. Not just with spurs.
