Arsenal vs Southampton

Apparently Podolski is starting upfront with ox and Gervinho on the wings

Arsenal's Starting XI: Szcz; Gibbs Verm Mert Jenko; Coq Arteta Cazorla; Gerv Podolski Ox.

I would be a little concerned about that front four getting in each other's way. They all like to come deep and cut inside.

Fingers crossed it doesn't turn out to be another Sunderland-esque match.

Gerv and Ox MUST maintain the width.

Anyone else think Theo's minutes is linked to his contract situation?

Yes. I think Wenger shoved him on the bench to remind him who's boss here.

Isn't it down to his constant niggling injuries? This game would be perfect for him imho. Remember last year against newly promoted Norwich? He tore them a new one.

I'm a little confused by Wenger's selection.

Walcott should've started if he's 100% fit but that's not my biggest worry for today. Benching Giroud is a bigger issue IMO. This was the best chance for him to score his first goal. He'll start vs Montpellier where he plays his former club and will probably totally suck and then we go to Manchester. I can't understand it, it's not like he totally sucked so far, and it's not like Poldi is better than him as CF.

That's why Arsene should've brought another striker.

Giroud probably isn't 100% fit. I highly doubt he was dropped for poor form. That's just not something Wenger does.

Chamakh might want to disagree about the latter part of your statement.

Suppose I should clarify and say that Wenger won't drop someone for poor form after two or three games, especially not a new signing he's just spent a fair bit of cash on. He'll continue to give chances to them. Even Chamakh had his opportunities.

Even though Buffone hasn't put a foot wrong, its great to see Szcz back, clear number 1 for me.
