How can United cope without Vidic?

United have now lost captain Vidic for 8 weeks. The defensive crisis at the club is a big concern right now with Smalling and Jones also out leaving just Rio and Evans as the club's two fully fit and experienced centre backs.

How do people think they'll cope? I should think they have the quality to get through, what are other people's thoughts?

As for how they plan on coping without Vidic, Jones and Smalling… I think that should be fairly obvious. They will close their eyes and say a little prayer that Evans and Ferdinand don’t get injured. In all seriousness, they will simply have to use the pairing they have and hope for the best. If one should get injured, they have played Carrick at the back before. It’s not an ideal situation, but it is one of the better options if they don’t even have two fit CBs. The other potential option could be to dip into the youth ranks. I’m unfamiliar with ManU’s youth system, but perhaps they have a player or two that could fill in for cup games, just to give the older players a bit of respite.

I think someone mentioned it already, but the best option may be to simply continue outscoring opponents. This ManU side is certainly capable of doing that on any given matchday. With a front four including some combination of Kagawa, Van Persie, Rooney, and one of Valencia, Nani and Young, they will not be held to too many nil-nil draws. Perhaps the message from Fergie should be that they should accept that they will leak goals. Try to come out fast and hard to get on the front foot and stay there with offense. If that attack is firing on all cylinders, you could play a pair of Muppets at the back and still win.
