Cazorla and Podolski celebrate the latter's goal against Olympiacos in mid-week

Gunners aim to bounce back from defeat in Premier League

It was only Arsenal's first defeat in 11 league games, but the defeat against Chelsea at the Emirates last weekend deflated the player's confidence, as Steve Bould admitted in mid-week. Not since a 2-1 reverse at home to Wigan in April last season had the gunners lost, but now it's time to put a new run together.

"We lost a game against Chelsea that we feel we should not have lost. The focus in the team is good. The quality is there," Arsene Wenger told the media at Friday's press conference, "And this game is a good way to show it."

Of course, Wednesday's 3-1 win against Olympiacos would have done the club no harm at all. Though, the display was hardly top-class. Gervinho, Lukas Podolski and substitute Aaron Ramsey found the back of the net, though the visitor's goal, a header from Kostas Mitroglou, left a lot of questions about the centre-back partnership of Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny - one that actually performed admirably last season.

Hammers flying on return to top-flight

Three wins, two draws and one defeat, Sam Allardyce's West Ham have enjoyed a fine start upon their return to the Premier League. Monday night's 2-1 win at QPR shot the Hammers up to 7th, above Arsenal, in the table. Three clean sheets also show that the Upton Park side have on of he meanest defences in the country, statistically at least. Though 7 goals in 6 games points to, possibly, a lack of goals in the side.

Match Facts

* Arsenal have lost just one of their last 11 Premier League away games (W6 D4 L1).

* Arsene Wenger has won just two of his nine away games as a coach in Premier League head to head meetings with Sam Allardyce (W2 D3 L4), the first one v Bolton in April 2002 and the last one v Blackburn in August 2010.

* There have been four penalties awarded in the last four Premier League meetings between West Ham and Arsenal.

* Arsenal have won six and lost none of the last eight Premier League encounters with West Ham.

* The Hammers were the last Premier League side to win at Highbury and the first team to win at the Emirates Stadium.

* West Ham have lost just one of their last 16 league games at Upton Park (W8 D7 L1).

* Arsenal have only had fewer points after six games of a Premier League season in two of the previous 20 seasons, seven in 2011-12 and five in 1994-95.

* Only one team in Premier League history has had fewer than 10 points after six games and gone on to win the title - Man Utd 2002-03.

* Gervinho has scored three goals from just three shots on target in the Premier League this season.

* West Ham scored the most goals from set plays in the 2011-12 Championship, while the last three league goals Arsenal have conceded have come from dead ball situations.

* West Ham picked up eight yellow cards in their last match (v QPR), an all-time Premier League record.

The return of Demel Thumbs up

Great job Sam!

Glad to have Perdinho back in the side against the Hammers, his aerial dominance is needed.

Kinda shitting it lol. Carrol, Maiga, Carlton, Vaz Te. All are big players. And in midfield they have Diame, Nolan, Jarvis.

We need to score first, otherwise it will be a very very hard task to overcome the goal.

Mannone is shit in the air so that will be something to lose ur cool over for sure lol. Mertesacker will be important. I'd play Giroud too.

Start Giroud and rest Gervinho.. not sure whether Wenger will do this as Gervinho is getting goals.. Gervinhos trickery works against the mid-lower teams at the least..
Will start Ramsey over Coquelin as the b2b.. or dont mind Coquelin playing deep with Arteta more forward..
will be nice to see Walcott getting a start.. but atm Ox might be preferred to him..

Great job Sam

maybe we will go with line up similar to stoke
just like that one important to collect second balls
Diaby will be missed
and then them trying to bully us
should fight like real men
Expect Per-Verm to have Carroll/Cole under control

Giroud to be great help
would be surprised if he doesn't start

Come on Arsenal bounce cant afford losing points at this stage
plus next month is tricky one
need to build some momentum

I'd start Frimpong in midfield instead of Ramsey

Mertesacker is a good defender, but what comes to aerial battles he is just tall. Not strong, doesn't have a big jump on him. For example, he always gets up for corners, but very rarely actually gets his head on the ball, still waiting for his first goal for Arsenal. Carroll to bully him all game long :coffee:

In that same vein, Carroll is just good in the air. His technique on the ground is average, his vision as limited as a moles and his creativity on par with that of a kindergartener's artwork

I'm going to be concerned if we don't start Giroud. Diaby's absence might also be felt on the physical side.

Great work as always Sam.

Wont be a easy game and I hope we can see Giroud start, we need some height during set pieces.

I would agree with RG starting Frimpong but I am afraid he will make a stupid tackle and get a red card since its a away game.

Art, don't let BFG's appearance fool you. He's a beast waiting to be unleashed. Twisted Evil

Even if it was a rushed preview, it looks great with some interesting facts. Thumbs up

You're otherwise right, but Carroll's knock-downs and flick-ons are often superb, that's his piece of creativity. But I totally expect West Ham to feed high balls to him and that's what I'm looking forward to
