Why do people insist on comparing Xavi and Pirlo?

I mean... They're entirely different players, maybe on papers they play the same position but it looks nothing like it in real life, shouldn't Pirlo be compared to Alonso playing style wise of course and Xavi to Seedorf last years as a CM in Milan (see Barca and Tottenham games)? Because its obvious that their playing style are VERY different!

Because we lwaub comparision. Especially if it sparks firy debate between two biased sides.

Because they're both similar height, similar age and have similar roles?

They shouldn't be compared though imo.

People compare them because they're the two best midfielders in the world...at least in terms of playmaking. They CAN be compared, even though their playing styles are pretty different.

I know this topic has been beaten to death but my theory is really simple. They're on the same level IMO because both can do what the other does - meaning Xavi can play the Pirlo role, and Pirlo can play the Xavi role.
Pirlo's long ball/final ball accuracy is slightly better than Xavi, but Xavi's short passing and positioning is superior. If they both grew up playing in the other's system, they'd be just as good at it. It's really that simple.

IMO you can't use the head-to-head comparisons to determine who's better, because they're playmakers, not forwards. Their success depends on their teammates' ability to finish.
