Re: Youth and Reserve Thread
Teixeira is ready. He's looking well above his class in the U21s. Should be given opportunities.

Re: Youth and Reserve Thread
Notts County match will be a nice one to give guys like Teixeira, Alberto, Ibe, Borini, Sterling, a chance. I don't want to change too much in defensive side because I want us to go deep in the competition but we can definitely fit a couple of the fringe guys into the starting lineup in this game.

Rumoured to be interested in 17 year old Brazilian DM called Danilo, plays for Coutinho's first team, Vasco da Gama.

Re: Youth and Reserve Thread
We have Chirivella (sp?) and Rossiter who are similar ages so it'll be interesting to see who plays. Would be great to have them all build an understanding with each other at 16/17 so that even if 2 of them make the first team in 3/4 years it comes more naturally for them.

So do I mate. One of the bright points of the club right now. Massive credit to Rafa for all that he did to improve it. Especially with the mess that the club was in with the ownership situation, could easily have neglected it.

Re: Youth and Reserve Thread
I think as a club we will be always grateful to what he did!! Now our youth system is a solid foundation for us. I mean looking at the results in youth tournament we can be proud of the youth we have. I also like that these lads are given chances to impress and I hope it will be always like that

Re: Youth and Reserve Thread
liverpool U21 were playing so shite against leicester city.
Kelly moved to RB from CB, looks OK till now, did defending also good but looks like he still needs few games to get fit .
liv conceded a stupid goal on counter but later equalised by Texeira with a good dipping free kick, a terrible mistake by their GK. He made few good runs behind the defence.
Jack Dunn seems to be playing as false 9 and has good power at his feet. He also seemed strong to keep the ball under pressure. Also made few good runs behind the defence but always offside, he can be taught about it though.
Morgan being played on the wings.
Ward took command and collected many crosses, never dropping any of them, seemed good with his feet.
Rossiter it is not only difficult to get ball from him, tackle him, press him....,also he recovered balls many times with some crisp tackles.
There were few good crosses in the box but there was nobody to put them in the net, previously morgan used to do that

does it mean that clubs think that it would may hamper their developmentnews wrote:The Premier League launched its new Under-21 Cup competition on Monday, declaring it to be another positive step forward in the development of younger players.
Although Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham have opted out, 51 academies have entered, including Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, with four Premier League teams featuring in Monday's draw for the first two rounds.
All matches have to be played in proper stadiums, which - in the week after Football Association chairman Greg Dyke expressed his concerns about the number of English youngsters forcing their way into the top flight - Premier League director of youth Ged Roddy feels is another significant development.
'The introduction of an Under-21 cup creates another competitive opportunity for players up and down the country, which can enhance and support what we're doing with the Barclays Under-21 Premier League,' said Roddy.
'Players who come through the academy system have been playing on training grounds since they were nine in some cases,' he said.
'One of the characteristics of that transition from the academy player to the professional player is the stadium experience, dealing with games that they need to win and dealing with, on occasions, a hostile environment that is created by a big crowd, and sometimes a very supportive environment.'
Following the establishment of the Under-21 Premier League last season, the introduction of a knockout competition will offer further invaluable experience for young players.
The draw will be regionalised until the round of 16, whereupon it becomes national. The final will be played over two legs, home and away at the main stadia of both teams.

Re: Youth and Reserve Thread
I'm not sure if any of you noticed, but there were an inordinate number of youngsters training with the first team in the photos prior to Sunderland.
I'm not complaining, mind you. In fact, quite the opposite... I'm rather encouraged by it. From what I can tell the list is something like:
Sterling & Ibe (obviously)
Yesil
Stephen Sama
Llyod Jones
Adam Morgan
Jordan Rossiter
Yesil, Jones and Rossiter are very promising additions. Rossiter in particular impresses me, as he is only 16. I have heard some wonderful praise of Rossiter, and training with the first team at that age only further reinforces it.

Fowler, McManaman, and Rob Jones have joined the academy staff to assist with the development of the club's U21s and U18s players in providing specialist sessions in their respective areas of expertise.
