But no, I personally don't think PL refs get offered bribes. But when they make incredible bad decisions like today, they should stop and think what they can do better instead of just being happy about their performance.

Clattenburg is a terrible ref, always has been. don't know why all of a sudden him being the star of a game is surprising people, the fact he was given a game such as Chelsea v United is beyond me. find the game he refs next week and watch, this is weekly thing for him

The PL refs today tried hard to make the La Liga refs look good. For today at least, I think they have. This day was full of teh lulz, I'm just glad I wasn't on the receiving end of any of it. Well, the AR in the Spurs game couldn't call offside if his life depended on it, but it didn't change anything.

What strikes me the most is that they don't realise how bad they are . jokes about Man u paying them asides it's becoming serious

And people still oppose video-replay. Is 30 secs of your time an unfair trade-off in return for 3 points being awarded correctly?

The problem - in all leagues, and all sports - is the incredible levels of protection given to the referees. Punishments and internal reports are never made public, the referees are given the right to avoid questions or the public, and any commentary by any team is greeted by fines and bans. They very well might be held accountable, but the public has no way of knowing - so the referees don't have to care. As long as they don't f up badly enough to lose their job - and at the wages they're being paid, it's not like there's a huge risk of getting fired for an eager and talented replacement - they have no reason to care if they did well or not. Allow formal complaints from clubs to be made in a public setting, or give the press access to a ref after a game, and you might see some things change.

Also, raise the wages to attract someone actually good at the job.

I feel bad for Chelsea fans. They are feeling exactly how we did earlier in the season when we lost 2-1 at Anfield because of a joke ref. Somethings never change.
