Re: Jose Mourinho's Greatest XI
Arsene Wenger's would be pretty boring and predictable, I think:
Alternatively, you could also have:
Seaman
Dixon --- Campbell --- Adams --- Cole
Ljungberg --- Vieira --- Gilberto --- Pires
Bergkamp --- Henry

Alternatively, you could also have:
Lehmann
Lauren --- Keown --- Toure --- Thuram
Hoddle --- Fabregas --- Petit --- Overmars
Weah --- Djorkaeff

Not a formation he ever used, but a mix of Italy 06 and Juve 01. Shame there was no room from guys in the 94 team, like Conte, Deschamps, Montero, Ferrera etc.

No Hyypia or Carragher, both of whom won multiple trophies (including CL) under Rafa and were part of one of the best Premier League defenses in their time under him?

2nd team is pretty good too. Maybe Put Lineker in there to get a player from Nagoya Grampus Eight

Damn hes old
Augenthaler was his captain when he had his first stint at Bayern from '87 on.
Vogts is even more amazing, he coached him at BMG, right after he stopped playing with him there. From '79 to '87.
Yes. Heynckes is old. Sadly Zizou wasn't at Real yet when Jupp was there. Also, Schweinsteiger > Seedorf defensively. That's why he's in over Seedorf.

Clarification: Is this supposed to be the best 11 players all-time to play under X manager, or does the players form while the manager was in charge come into effect?
I think Samuel is a better player and has had a better career than both Hyypia and Carragher, but I would not argue that the latter two players performed better under Rafa than Samuel did

I would argue Hyypia was superior at his peak... a hugely underrated player.

Re: Jose Mourinho's Greatest XI
I could make a really good argument for Canizares as a player over Cesar tbh i mean he may not have won the CL but f*ck me was he good before he decided to drop shampoo on his foot
Oh yeah Dani i forgot you had Vitor Baia

I'm already ashamed of choosing Lucio over Hyypiä, but I hoped nobody would notice.

Zidane played for Juve in that match. I looked it up earlier because I wanted a look at Heynckes' Real squad.

Agreed that's the way it should be, especially for Rafa when a lot of Mourinho's didn't perform under him for one reason or another.
Eto'o aside probably, i would like to see teams of players who performed best under what ever coach you decide to pick.
For example if you want to pick a Hiddink XI i think choosing Eto'o is wrong because for intensive purposes he hasn't performed under him.

Re: Jose Mourinho's Greatest XI
In 98.
Yeah, that was toward the end of Lipp's first stint. Forgot that, he was there for like 5 years.
Damn...Yeah, put Zidane in there for Nedved, make it even more unbalanced what the hell.

VivaStPauli wrote:Jupp Heynckes

Vogts -- Augenthaler - Lucio - R. Carlos
Matthäus - Redondo - Schweinsteiger

Don Jupp's men line up in a nifty 4-3-2-1 with little width, and stand deep. No early pressing, they absorb pressure due to the statue of former sweeper Lothar Matthäus and the industrious Schweinsteiger in midfield, who are covered by the venomous Vogts, the bullwark of Augenthaler, who captains the team, and tricky duo Lucio and Carlos.
Once they gain possession they hit quick, through the center of the pitch, with Redondo, Schweinsteiger, and Matthäus taking turns orchestrating the attacks, once they get close to goal, they feed Rumenigge, with Mehmet Scholl and Raúl lurking at the edge of the area to prey on rebounds.
If the opposition parks the bus, Mathäus (or Redondo, or Schweinsteiger) advances up the pitch, Scholl and Raul push wide, and they will probe the defence with those perfect passes half the team knows how to play, with all defenders taking turns in crowding the box. The CBs are both a threat on goal, while Vogts and Carlos both know to cross.
If all else fails, sub in Ribéry or Müller, or sub in Gomez and cross high until he lucks out and scores a header. Boom. Heynckes XI. Or sub in Seedorf, what do I care. Heynckes has coached everyone, I can pretty much just name awesome footballers, he'll have coached them at some time.
I'm sorry but that list would be one that Jupp would shed a tear on.
Neuer cannot possibly be ahead of Canizares when he hasn't proven as much as him along with being Jupp's fav keeper as well (not counting winning the CL)
Vogts is arguable for Pannuci but I would take this since the former was amazing.
But Lucio and Augenthaler over Sanchis and Hierro? Not a chance. Aitor Karanka would even get over those two as the 3rd choice after the famous Spanish pairing. Roberto Carlos was a legend but compared to Larrazábal who was Jupp's first choice LB at Athletic club twice in both his stints has got to be an automatic starter.
Why is Schwiensteiger over Clarance Seedorf? That cannot be right.
Rumenigge? Heynkes never paired up with KHR as you must be getting mixed up.
Scholl was a fantastic player and a great man along with being a personal favourite of mine, but Etxeberria was a defining legend for Osram and his personal favourite player as well. Raul should be the focal point of attack then Julen Guerrero paired up alongside Etxeberria supporting Raul.
Canizares
Vogt(Pannuci)-Sanchis-Hierro(Karanka)-Larrazábal
Matthäus-Redondo-Seedorf
Exteberria-Guerrero
Raul
Would be apt.

In that case, Hyypia for Samuel, and someone for Cambiasso (Suggestions Welcome)
