I think if its between Samuel and Lucio I want to go Samuel. Its hard to seperate the two and while Lucio is more highlight type tackles and reads, Samuel to me was just a bit better.

Agreed. I'd be thinking though that most guys on here could outpace a Samuel-Terry partnership. Personally I prefer the stopper-cover partnership. To be honest I don't see a whole lot of difference between a Lucio-Terry partnership and a Carvalho-Samuel partnership. Or a Carvalho-Terry and Lucio-Samuel partnership. Mourinho had the two best centre back pairings in Europe at Chelsea and Inter. All four players were at a similar level imo.

Samuel never had to play on a team with a high-line until after Mourinho left (Which, combined with age, are the primary drivers of his current struggles) - His vulnerability to pace was so rarely exposed for the majority of his career

Also didn't hurt that he was the best last-ditch tackler that Ive ever seen, that bailed him out quite a few times during those rare moments when he had to defend going toward his own goal

Rarely has a nickname been so apt as "The Wall" - When the play was kept in front of him, he was an absolute monster

True, I agree on all that. splitting hairs really, going with the best matched pair makes sense.

Very true. His failure at Madrid was down to that thing, having to play higher up with space in behind.

A monster with the game in front.

Roberto Mancini Very Happy ... pretty solid (Lazio 2002-2004, Inter 2004-2008, Man City 2009 - present)

Joe Hart
Stam --- Samuel --- Kompany
Cambiasso
Zanetti --- Yaya Toure --- Fiore --- Silva
C. Lopez---Ibrahimovic

Couldn't really find a decent left back, so I went for this 3-5-2 formation (a bit unbalanced Very Happy )

No Aguero... I know... :coffee:

TBH I won't pretend to know anything about the other sides he's managed so I focused on Bayern, BMG and Real Madrid. I really didn't follow La Liga at the time, big matches aside.

You're right big time about KHR, Rumenigge left for Inter the same summer Heynckes signed for Bayern. Oops.

I don't blame you as so illustrious is Osram's career it would be harsh to criticize the choices you made. I was flustered since along with der general, Jupp is probably my favourite German manager. It will truly bring sadness to me if he retires post-Bayern.

Well, he's always reacted pretty pissed off when Rumenigge and Hoeness suggested he was retiring. He might just coach a few more years after all. I certainly wouldn't mind, he's awesome.

anyone have an idea of who has managed the best XI? I honestly think capello takes it or is at least up there with the dutch trio he had at milan plus maldini and the stars at madrid, just to name a few.

What about Van Gaal? I mean he coached the golden 90s Ajax generation, Barcelona, Netherlands x2 and Bayern.

Guardiola and old Rijkaard/young Davids > Cocu and Scweinsteiger

Rivaldo > Litmanen

Send Lahm to leftback, get Reiziger in there for Sergi.

Just my opinion.

Bergkamp over Kluivert on every day of th season except CL Final day. Proud
Rijkaard is better than Schweinsteiger and Cocu are, and Ribéry was off-form and injury-plagued during the Van Gaal-era whereas Robben was at the top of his abilities. My side:

Van der Sar
De Boer - Blind - Puyol
Robben - Rijkaard - Schweinsteiger - Figo
Rivaldo
Bergkamp - Kluivert

Firstly Mascherano and Tevez were awful under Pardew they were never picked lol..... Mascherano didn't really make his mark in England till he moved to Liverpool and Tevez best form came under Curbishley.

Secondly that is 10 players :coffee:
